The Family Services Specialist plays a vital role in connecting families with subsidized child care services that support children’s healthy development and family stability. This position works directly with families to determine and maintain eligibility for child care assistance through interviews, documentation review, and ongoing recertifications. This person will manage a high-volume caseload while ensuring compliance with funding requirements, maintain accurate client records, and provide excellent customer service.

The ideal candidate has strong communication, organization, customer service, and critical thinking skills. They must have knowledge of and the ability to use computers for client data, word processing and a calendar of events. This person must be able to work remotely as needed, work as part of a team and be available to travel throughout California to attend conferences, workshops, trainings, and community meetings.
EssentialFunction Of The Job
- Collect documentation and interview families in person and by phone to determine eligibility for child care services.
- Complete recertifications to determine continuing eligibility for enrolled families.
- Explain and communicate program funding rules, regulations, and policies to clients.
- Communicate regularly with community partners regarding child care services.
- Manage a large caseload averaging 130 cases from one funding source, adhering to the program policies/procedures.
- Conduct caseload reviews and complete caseload reports.
- Maintain accurate information in the subsidy database, to ensure appropriate services to families.
- Make appropriate referrals to the Resource & Referral Program and the Help Me Grow Programs.
- Participate in community outreach to educate and promote agency services to the community.
- Ability to work remotely as needed.
Required Skills & Abilities:
Knowledge of and ability to use computers for client data, word processing, and calendar of events
- Two years’ experience in a position involving community or social service work required
- One year interviewing and caseload management experience required
- Degree or certificate in human services or similar area of study preferred
- Experience determining eligibility for a public assistance program preferred
Supervisory Responsibilities:
This position does not require supervisory responsibilities.
Travel Requirements:
Must be able to travel as needed.
Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. Good vision is imperative. The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; sit; reach; push; and pull. Manual dexterity and keyboarding are also required. The employee must lift and/or move 10 lbs.
