Staff Accountant - Fairfield County | Hybrid
We are partnering with a well-established and growing professional services organization in the Fairfield area that is looking to add a Staff Accountant to its finance team. This is a newly created position due to continued growth and offers an excellent opportunity for an accountant who wants broad exposure across the accounting function and the ability to grow with the organization.
The position will work closely with the Controller and have exposure to general ledger accounting, month-end close, financial reporting, reconciliations, and day-to-day accounting operations.
The organization is looking for someone who is comfortable being hands-on across the accounting function today, with the opportunity to develop into a supervisory-level role over the next 1–2 years.
Main Responsibilities
- Maintain and reconcile the general ledger, including journal entries and balance sheet reconciliations
- Assist with month-end and year-end close, including accruals, adjusting entries, and supporting schedules
- Contribute to monthly and quarterly financial reporting and ad-hoc financial analysis
- Support day-to-day AP and AR activities, including invoice processing, cash receipts, payment activity, and account reconciliations
- Assist with billing and collections, including researching and resolving discrepancies
- Support annual audit and tax preparation
- Maintain strong internal controls and confidentiality over sensitive financial information
- Participate in special projects and accounting process improvements
- Take on increasing responsibility as the finance team continues to grow
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
- 2–5 years of accounting experience within professional services or a corporate accounting environment
- Strong understanding of GAAP, general ledger accounting, journal entries, accruals, account reconciliations, and month-end close
- Strong Microsoft Excel skills
Why Consider This Opportunity?
- Clear advancement potential with the opportunity to grow into a supervisory-level position within approximately 1–2 years
- Newly created role resulting from continued organizational growth
- Join an established organization that continues to expand its operations and geographic presence
- Broad accounting exposure rather than being siloed into one area
- Direct exposure to the Controller and senior finance leadership
