Our client is seeking an experienced Senior Accountant to support financial reporting, accounting operations, regulatory compliance, and enterprise-level financial processes.
The Senior Accountant will prepare balance sheets, profit and loss statements, financial reports, and related analyses. This individual will analyze financial trends, costs, revenues, commitments and obligations to support forecasting and business planning. The role may also provide recommendations related to resource utilization, tax strategies, and assumptions used in budget forecasts.
The successful candidate will bring a strong understanding of accounting principles, regulatory requirements, and financial practices within the insurance industry. This position requires sound judgment, strong analytical capabilities, and the ability to connect financial concepts and regulations with the needs of business partners.
The Senior Accountant will continually develop knowledge of the organization and its various business functions and will serve as a subject matter resource for accounting-related matters. The position may also provide coaching and mentoring to junior team members, offer leadership and oversight, and take a key role in the monthly enterprise closing process.
Essential Functions- Prepare monthly accounting entries and support the accounting team while reviewing work for accuracy and completeness.
- Complete required statutory and non-profit filings and remain current on applicable financial, regulatory, and legal requirements.
- Own the monthly financial statement process and variance reporting, providing financial overviews and analysis to senior financial leaders and business partners as requested.
- Prepare financial reports, supplemental financial summaries, and other management reporting as needed.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders and business partners to support financial reporting, analysis, and accounting initiatives.
- Provide guidance, knowledge sharing, and oversight to less-experienced accounting staff as appropriate.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required.
- 5+ years of progressive accounting experience required.
- Property and casualty insurance accounting experience strongly preferred.
- Experience with statutory accounting strongly preferred.
- Strong experience working with financial databases and Microsoft Excel.
- Advanced knowledge of GAAP, statutory accounting principles, and applicable regulatory requirements.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
- Excellent time management skills with the ability to adapt to changing priorities and deadlines.
- Strong internal customer service and relationship-building skills.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within a team environment.
