Position: Safeguarding Intern (Legal)

Save the Children The Role

As the Safeguarding Intern, you’ll be integral to our work in helping vulnerable children achieve a brighter future. Safeguarding is our commitment to protect children, families, and communities from harm. This position will support the National Safeguarding Team in developing resources, piloting tools, and monitoring implementation across SCUS programs. You will report to the Senior Advisor, Safeguarding Prevention.

Location

Hybrid - Fairfield, CT, Washington, D.C., or Lexington, KY locations

What You’ll Be Doing (Essential Duties)

  • Safeguarding Resource Development (60%)
    • Support the development, review, and formatting of safeguarding resources and materials
    • Assist in organizing and maintaining safeguarding resources within SharePoint for team access
    • Conduct research on state-level safeguarding policies, guidelines, and legal requirements
  • Training and Community of Practice (CoP) (30%)
    • Compile and maintain training materials and CoP resources
    • Provide logistical and coordination support for trainings and CoP events
    • Assist with facilitation and documentation of learning sessions
  • Implementation of Safeguarding Tools (10%)
    • Develop and maintain tracking systems to monitor tool adoption, completion, and follow‑up actions
    • Collect and synthesize feedback from teams on safeguarding tools and processes
    • Analyze safeguarding reporting and response data to support continuous improvement in prevention efforts
Required Qualifications
  • Must be actively enrolled in an Associates, Bachelors, or Master’s degree program, or have graduated within 6 months of the start date
  • Interest in safeguarding, child protection, or education work
  • Coursework or experience in a related field such as social work, public health, education, or international development
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks, stay organized, and meet deadlines
  • Strong collaboration skills and a willingness to work with diverse teams
  • Good judgment and the ability to handle sensitive or confidential information responsibly
  • Professional proficiency in MS Office suite
  • Professional proficiency in spoken and written English
Preferred Qualifications
  • Familiarity with SharePoint or similar platforms
  • Experience working with children, low‑income communities, or communities impacted by disaster
