Basic Function:
The Assistant Dean of Students will be responsible for students in one class and lead various student life initiatives.
Education and Experience Requirements:
Master's Degree in Secondary Education or a related field, or the current pursuit of this degree, is preferred. Experience teaching or as an administrator in a high school setting. Must have experience with, or be familiar with, the mission of Catholic, Jesuit education.
Essential Functions:
For a particular class, the Assistant Dean will be responsible for:
- Enforcing all student rules and regulations and overseeing student conduct, student discipline, and student behavior during school day in the Prep buildings, on the Fairfield University campus, and at all school functions both on and off campus including dances, athletic events, and the Fairfield Train Station.
- When infractions occur, administering disciplinary penalties and consulting with the Dean of Student Life and Ignatian Formation on infractions that involve suspension and/or expulsion.
- Organizing and executing daily student JUG with the help of fellow Assistant Deans and Campus Life Assistant.
- Maintaining meticulous student disciplinary records.
- Overseeing student daily attendance including maintaining student attendance records and communicating with faculty members, students, and families when concerning attendance trends arise and when attendance exceeds standards established in the Student Handbook.
- Working collaboratively with the Dean of Academics & Faculty Formation and School Counseling Department on matters of student attendance and behavioral interventions.
- Working collaboratively with the Director of Ignatian Academic Programs and Research on matters of academic integrity.
- Assigning lockers and supervising the cleaning of lockers at the end of the academic year.
- Assisting with the organization, planning, and execution of yearly student orientations and transfer student onboarding and orientation.
- Assisting with the organization, planning, and execution of student leadership formation programs.
- Gathering qualitative and quantitative data about all aspects of the student experience.
- Assisting with the organization, planning, and execution for the class and/or with other local all-girls Catholic schools.
- Serving as a member of various leadership teams, such as School Team, Retention Team, and Mission Leadership.
- Teaching one class section, as needed.
In addition, the Assistant Dean will lead various student life initiatives in collaboration with other Assistant Deans, the Dean of Student Life and Ignatian Formation, and other members of the Prep community.
Attend and actively participate in school sponsored trips, retreats, service trips, extracurricular activities, athletic events, and community events held during and after school hours at the school or off-site locations as needed. Performs such other duties, responsibilities, and activities as required by supervisor and as departmental/Fairfield Prep needs indicate.
This is a 12-month position and is based at Fairfield College Preparatory School's Fairfield, CT campus and is not eligible for immigration assistance.
