The Dental Sedation Center of Connecticut (DSCC) is seeking a skilled and adaptable Registered Nurse to support patients across the Pre-Operative, Operating Room, and Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) settings. This is a highly collaborative, cross-trained nursing role within a team-oriented ambulatory surgery center that provides dental care requiring general anesthesia.
DSCC is a fully licensed and accredited Ambulatory Surgery Center, operating in compliance with Connecticut Department of Public Health (CT DPH), Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), and The Joint Commission (TJC) standards. While fully licensed as an ASC, DSCC focuses mostly on dental cases requiring general anesthesia, with a strong emphasis on pediatric populations.
- Provide safe, compassionate nursing care in the Pre-Operative, Operating Room, and PACU settings.
- Perform pre-operative assessments, patient and family education, and preparation for anesthesia.
- Circulate in the operating room, ensuring adherence to sterile technique, safety protocols, and documentation standards.
- Monitor patients in PACU, including airway management, vital signs, pain control, and post-anesthesia recovery.
- Serve as a patient advocate throughout the perioperative experience.
- Collaborate closely with dentist anesthesiologists, dentists, physicians, and fellow nursing staff.
- Participate in cross-training and competency validation across all perioperative areas.
- Support infection prevention, patient safety, and quality improvement initiatives.
- Assist with emergency preparedness, drills, and response as needed.
- Maintain accurate clinical documentation in the electronic medical record.
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Connecticut required.
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required.
- Minimum of 1-2 years of perioperative, PACU, ambulatory surgery center experience or acute care nursing experience preferred.
- Minimum of 1-2 years of pediatrics experience preferred.
- Experience with DPH, CMS, and TJC surveys and accreditation.
- Experience with QA/PI, infection control, and survey readiness.
- BLS, ACLS, and PALS certification required.
- Ability to work effectively in a team-based, fast-paced ASC environment.
- Strong communication, organizational, and critical-thinking skills.
- Ability to work onsite in a fast-paced healthcare environment.
- Ability to sit, stand, walk, and remain active for extended periods.
- Ability to lift and move equipment consistent with clinical duties.
- Ability to respond to emergent situations.
- Must be able to work onsite in a clinical environment.
