School Nurse
Provides primary physical and emotional health care to the school population through direct assistance, education, guidance and consultation.
Administers medications and treatments as ordered
Provides care for student and staff illness and accidents
Administers care based on individual health care plans and individual emergency care plans
Serves as liaison between the home and the school regarding student health concerns
Documents all encounters in the Electronic Health Record
Follows communicable disease control procedures and informs administration and/or parents regarding school exclusion and readmission
QualificationsHolds a current Connecticut State license as a Registered Nurse.
Associate or Baccalaureate degree in nursing
Current certification in CPR
Excellent communication skills
Knowledge of current practices for common childhood illnesses and chronic diseases: asthma management, diabetes, insulin pen and pumps, seizure management
Ability to perform skilled nursing care such as catheterization, suctioning, gastrostomy tube feedings, insulin administration, insulin pump skills and nebulizer treatments
Computer skills
Preferred Qualifications:
Baccalaureate degree in nursing
Experience in pediatric and/or community or public health nursing
Prior experience in school nursing, or acute care
Must have 1 year of Nursing experience within the last 5 years.
