Job SummaryThe Cytotechnologist Senior performs the duties of a technical trainer in the cytology laboratory, assisting the supervisor in training, scheduling, and assigning duties appropriate to each cytotechnologist. The role coordinates quality control procedures, troubleshoots, maintains procedure manuals, documents method evaluations, and manages inventory control within primary responsibilities.
Responsibilities- Perform In Situ Hybridization techniques and assist with deep Fine Needle Aspiration (FNA) and Ultrasound Guided Fine Needle Aspiration (US‑FNA).
- Examine cell samples and make primary diagnoses on all cases (GYN, Non‑GYN and FNA), including preliminary and final diagnoses as required.
- Demonstrate the ability to identify and solve problems with initiative and good judgment, leading the cytology staff within primary areas of responsibility.
- Place orders for equipment and office supplies for Cytology, CDC, and Surgical Pathology (if requested).
- Act as the technical specialist, maintaining awareness of new technologies and evaluating tests offered for accuracy, precision, and economy.
- Make diagnostic decisions on cytologic cases and apply appropriate criteria for correct interpretation.
- Handle samples for optimal preparations in cytopreparation.
- Communicate effectively with all levels within the organization, including supervisory duties in absence of the supervisor.
- Strong public relations abilities and interpersonal skills with a professional telephone manner.
- Organized, flexible, and detail‑oriented.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to express ideas clearly.
- Leadership capabilities and the ability to communicate effectively and express ideas clearly.
- Ability to follow appropriate channels of communication with cytology supervisor and management.
- Business decorum and appearance; supportive of team concept.
- Certified as a Cytotechnologist by the American Society for Clinical Pathology within 6 months of employment.
- Maintain current CT (ASCP) certification for continued employment.
- Minimum of three (3) years of clinical work experience as a Cytotechnologist.
- Work experience may be specific to specialty areas such as deep FNA, US-FNA, and In Situ Hybridization technique.
- Required:
Bachelor’s Degree in Health Science (Cytotechnology Track) from an accredited program. - Preferred:
Master’s Degree in Health Education, Cytotechnology, or Clinical Lab Science from an accredited program.

- Lift less than 20 lbs.
- Prolonged standing.
- Strong recall, reasoning, problem solving, hearing, speaking clearly, writing legibly, reading, logical thinking.
- Work in a fast‑pace environment, handle multiple priorities, frequent and intense customer interactions, adapt to frequent change.
- Visual acuity requirements as applicable.
