What you’ll be doing

You’re joining a summer camp team where roles and tasks are collaborative and shared. As Assistant Aquatics Supervisor you’ll be a critical team member serving a population of campers with limited swim experience, introducing most of them to the water for the first time, getting them acclimated and comfortable, as well as teaching important swimming skills. You’ll also serve as a lifeguard ensuring their safety at all times.

RESPONSIBILITIES

AND DUTIES

Reporting to the Aquatics Supervisor and Lead Administrator, you’ll work as part of a team helping to implement the swim program curriculum. The duties for this role include, but are not limited to:

  • Assist with facilitating play based learning experiences that help children learn critical swimming skills based on water swim instruction principles
  • Assist conducting swim tests with each camper before, during and at the close of the camp program
  • Document all swim test results
  • Organize and differentiate swim groups according to ability using initial assessment indicators
  • Serve as a lifeguard for a program that serves up to all Co-Op children and staff
  • Enforce all pool rules in a consistent manner
  • Ensure the safety of all campers while in the pool area (e.g. locker rooms, pool deck and in the water)
  • Collaborate with the Aquatics Supervisor and Leadership Team to keep the swim program schedule running on time and effectively for counselors, staff and children alike
  • Assist with managing counselors to facilitate safety for children and to promote maximum swim time for all children
  • Assist with organizing and maintain all pool materials and equipment
  • Assist with supervising lifeguards and insuring that they conduct all of their duties including but not limited to:
  • Running all required buddy checks
  • Maintaining all safety standards
  • Assist with providing weekly reports of the swim program with suggestions for improvements to maximize the swim experience for all children
  • Assist with providing a final report of the swim program to be part of the overall Co-Op Quality Assessment review
  • Participate fully in orientation experiences and weekly staff meetings
  • Lead recreation experiences on days when the pool is closed and during our other special days
Requirements
  • Must possess current Lifeguard certification from a NYS approved agency
  • Must possess current CPR certification from a NYS approved agency
  • Must possess current Progressive Swim Instructor / Water Safety Instructor certification from a NYS approved agency
  • Must have previous experience as a lifeguard and swim instructor
  • Must be at least 18 years old
  • Availability to work the entire camp season and attend all required orientations and trainings
All employees must
  • Possess a valid social security card and NYS state identification
  • Take a background check with fingerprint approval if you are not a Mamaroneck School District employee (we will provide instructions as part of the onboarding process)
  • Provide two professional references
REQUIRED PROGRAM DATES & TIMES

Camp-season:

  • June 29, 2026 to August 7, 2026 (No camp Friday, July 3rd)
  • 8:00 A.M. to 3:30 P.M. Regular camp days
  • 8:00 A.M. to 4:00 P.M. Regular camp days with weekly staff meeting

* all program start and end times/dates subject to change until program design is complete by June 1st
