Position: Groundskeeper I
Job Summary

Maintain the beauty and safety of the university campus grounds. This role involves a variety of landscaping tasks, including planting, mowing, weeding, watering, and mulching, as well as snow removal and general cleanup to ensure the campus is presentable and safe for students, faculty, and visitors. Duties will fluctuate with the season.

Job Responsibilities

Perform routine landscaping and maintenance tasks, including but not limited to mowing lawns, trimming hedges, weeding, planting, and mulching.

Applies plan design and implement new landscaping projects to enhance the campus environment.

Operate and maintain groundskeeping equipment, such as lawnmowers, trimmers, and leaf blowers, ensuring all equipment is safe and in good working order.

Remove trash and debris from campus grounds to maintain a clean and orderly appearance.

Provide support for snow and ice removal to ensure safe passage on campus walkways and parking lots during winter months.

Monitor the health of campus vegetation and report any signs of disease or pests to the supervisor.

Work collaboratively with the groundskeeping team and other departments to support campus events and projects, including cleaning and upkeep of sidewalks, driveways, parking lots, etc.

Performs regular maintenance and minor repairs on lawn equipment and tools.

Follow all university policies and procedures related to safety and environmental sustainability.

Job Qualifications

Previous experience in groundskeeping, landscaping, or a related field preferred.
Basic knowledge of plant care and landscape maintenance techniques and landscape equipment.
Ability to operate groundskeeping equipment and tools safely.
Physical stamina and the ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
Good communication and teamwork skills.
Ability to follow instructions and work independently when necessary.
High degree of integrity
Must be able to demonstrate good written and verbal skills, and can follow oral or written instructions and directions.

Additional Requirements

Ability to work primarily outdoors in all types of weather.
If the weather does not allow for exterior work, employees will support the custodial services team.
Must be physically able to lift, lower, carry, push, and pull objects up to 50 lbs.
Ability to stand, climb, bend, stoop, kneel, and crouch for extended periods of time.
Must be flexible with work schedule to support inclement weather needs.
