Operations Manager

About Tuff Shed

Tuff Shed was established in 1981 and has become America's largest manufacturer and installer of storage buildings and garages.

Key Responsibilities
  • Work directly with operations employees.
  • Manage logistics including shipping, receiving, packing, and communication with cross docks.
  • Recruit, hire, train, and supervise the performance of operations teams under the direction of the DM.
  • Supervise the installation function, reviewing sales orders to ensure financial and logistical criteria have been met.
  • Oversee daily planning and scheduling of the operations team’s manpower and materials.
  • Perform customer service duties, such as resolving warranty issues by reviewing and scheduling work to satisfy the customer.
  • Assist the DM with daily, weekly, and monthly corporate document submittals.
  • Operate the factory efficiently and effectively to produce the assigned product profitably.
  • Maintain appropriate staffing levels to maximize production and keep labor costs within budget.
  • Conduct performance evaluations and disciplinary actions for fabricator employees in conjunction with the Production Manager or Foreman, providing recommendations to the DM.
  • Ensure building quality, communication, and customer experience align with company expectations and the Tuff Shed brand.
  • Manage the company’s warranty program and ensure timely repairs.
Safety Responsibilities
  • Perform daily safety walk‑through inspections of the shop area and yard.
  • Implement and enforce the company’s safety programs; ensure compliance with DOT regulations and manage associated records.
  • Schedule and lead store safety meetings, trainings, and work‑related injury investigations per OSHA guidelines.
  • Ensure tools and equipment are secured, inventoried, and maintained to meet safety requirements.
  • Conduct monthly cycle counts and ongoing inventory management; perform physical inventory counts to certify accuracy.
  • Order material timely to meet production schedules while minimizing inventory costs.
  • Negotiate and develop relationships with local suppliers to ensure materials are purchased at or below standard costs.
Subcontractor/Installer Relationship
  • Recruit and onboard subcontractors to comprise at least 35% of the store’s revenue budget.
  • Inspect subcontractor work to ensure Tuff Shed product quality expectations are met or surpassed.
Skills & Experience
  • Experience working in a fast‑paced, high‑volume production environment.
  • Proven experience in successful business‑to‑consumer sales of large‑ticket products.
  • Leadership and relationship‑building skills, including employee management and resolution of employee relations issues.
  • Knowledge of DOT, OSHA, and employment law.
  • Effective communication skills at all levels, including customers, partners, suppliers, and colleagues.
  • Problem‑solving ability using sound logic and good judgment.
  • Strong reading, writing, and comprehension skills in both oral and written instruction.
  • Ability to prepare professional written correspondence and reports.
  • Mathematical, accounting, and financial aptitude as it applies to business operations.
