Engineering Manager

Overview

The Engineering Manager will focus on the structuring and operation of the engineering department as a cohesive unit; the conceptualization and day-to-day management of simultaneous projects; delivering manufacturable designs to agreed specifications within time and budget constraints, and the fostering of innovative solutions to customer needs. The Engineering Manager is responsible for all aspects of the company’s engineering product development activities.

Key duties / responsibilities of the Engineering Manager, including, but not limited to:

• Serve as a member of the management team to effectuate the company’s direction.
• Assume full responsibility of all engineering projects, personnel, as well as adherence / creation of engineering procedures / work instructions.
• Formulate long-term objectives and standards of performance for the engineering department and ensure they are implemented.
• Ensure all digital data (BOM, Mfg. Drawings, ECO) are created, stored, and entered correctly into the ERP system.
• Ensure that the department achieves objectives and project completion within budget and time frame.
• Manager CNC programming engineers and the projects they are responsible for.
• Implement and maintain process for job review / improvements, as well as CIP projects to improve machining procedures.
• Ensure that product development is focused on meeting and exceeding the customer requirements.
• Manage an effective engineering department, ensuring that the department functions per documented QMS requirements.
• Be a student of current industry trends, ensuring that the company maintains and expands its technological leadership position.
• Motivate staff and provide technical direction and guidance, as well as hands-on project management, recognizing the role as that of both manager and support resource / mentor.
• Assure that product is designed for specific needs, based on customer and sales input.
• Hire and direct necessary resources to meet scheduled commitments.
• Assess engineering personnel for improvement and capabilities.
• Demonstrate practical knowledge of Good Machining Practices (GMP)
• Be respectful and a team player with co-workers.
• Maintain and provide support to all 5-S program initiatives.
• Ensure compliance with workplace policies according to safety objectives and procedures.

Qualifications and Education Requirements

• BSME, 5+ years of industry engineering experience, with at least 3 years in a management position.
• 10+ years of industry engineering experience, with at least 5 years in a management position, in lieu of BSME.

• Demonstrated team building and leadership skills.
• “Out of the box thinker” must be key driver contributing to the products roadmap and willing to take innovative product risk while balancing the road map for on time deliverables.
• Manage diverse, simultaneous projects of varying complexities.
• Strong relationship management, strategy development, project management, problem solving and changing management skills.
• Professional and positive approach, self-motivated, strong in building relationships, team player, dynamic, creative with the ability to work on own initiative.
• Demonstrated strong oral and written communication skills.
• Business-related computer skills including working knowledge of Microsoft Office and various CAD products.
