Purchasing and Logistics Expeditor
The Purchasing and Logistics Expeditor plays a key role in sourcing technical components, coordinating domestic and international logistics, and ensuring materials arrive on time to support production and project timelines. This position manages purchase orders, works closely with suppliers and freight partners, and maintains accurate records in ERP/MRP and Microsoft Office tools. The role is ideal for a detail-oriented professional with strong purchasing and logistics experience who enjoys working in a fast-paced manufacturing environment and contributing to a growing organization with ambitious goals.
Responsibilities
- Source and purchase mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and automation components to support production and project needs.
- Issue, manage, and track purchase orders from creation through delivery, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
- Negotiate pricing, delivery schedules, and supplier agreements to achieve cost-effective and reliable supply.
- Monitor inventory levels and coordinate stock replenishment in collaboration with the operations team.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with suppliers to ensure consistent quality, cost, and delivery performance.
- Evaluate supplier performance regularly with respect to quality, cost, and on-time delivery, and recommend improvements or changes as needed.
- Coordinate domestic and international shipments, including inbound components and outbound finished equipment.
- Manage import and export documentation and ensure compliance with customs and regulatory requirements.
- Work closely with freight forwarders, carriers, and customs brokers to arrange and optimize transportation.
- Track inbound and outbound shipments and proactively address any issues that may impact delivery timelines.
- Ensure timely delivery of components and finished equipment to meet production and customer schedules.
- Handle and coordinate insurance claims related to logistics activities when necessary.
- Proactively identify potential delays in the supply chain and implement corrective actions to mitigate risk.
- Follow up on open purchase orders and expedite critical materials to support urgent production or project needs.
- Provide regular status updates on material availability and delivery timelines to production, engineering, and management teams.
- Support project timelines by ensuring required materials are available when needed.
- Communicate regularly with suppliers, logistics partners, and internal stakeholders to align expectations and resolve issues.
- Translate technical and commercial communications when required to support clear understanding between parties.
- Coordinate effectively between engineering, production, sales, and suppliers to ensure accurate specifications and on-time deliveries.
- Maintain accurate purchasing and logistics records, including supplier data, order history, and shipment documentation.
- Generate procurement, inventory, and delivery reports to support decision-making and performance tracking.
- Update ERP/MRP systems with current supplier, order, and shipment information to maintain data integrity.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives within the supply chain by identifying opportunities to streamline processes, reduce costs, and improve service levels.
Essential Skills
- 3+ years of experience in purchasing, logistics, supply chain, or expediting roles.
- Experience working with international suppliers and freight companies, including coordination of cross-border shipments.
- Knowledge of import and export procedures and freight logistics, including documentation and customs requirements.
- Strong organizational and multitasking skills with the ability to manage multiple purchase orders and shipments simultaneously.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Outlook, and Word, for reporting and communication.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Prior experience in a machinery manufacturing company or similar industrial environment is strongly preferred.
- Experience in industries such as machinery, packaging equipment, automation, or manufacturing is highly beneficial.
- Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, Logistics, Engineering, or a related field is preferred.
Work Environment
This position is fully onsite at an office and operations facility located in Fairfield. The role works closely with operations, production, engineering, and sales teams in a collaborative, fast-paced manufacturing environment. Daily work involves frequent use of ERP/MRP systems such as Quick Books Enterprise and Microsoft Office tools, especially Excel, Outlook, and Word, to manage purchasing, inventory, and logistics data.
