Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Manager
Location: Fairfield & Flanders, NJ (Multi-Site)
Position Summary
Garonit Pharmaceutical is seeking an experienced and hands‑on Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Manager to lead the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of the Company's Environmental, Health & Safety programs across its New Jersey manufacturing facilities.
The EHS Manager will partner closely with Operations, Engineering, Quality, Facilities, Human Resources, and executive leadership to support safe manufacturing operations, regulatory compliance, customer sustainability initiatives, and continuous improvement efforts.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and oversee the Company's Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) programs across multiple manufacturing sites.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, NJDEP, DOT, and other applicable federal, state, and local regulations.
- Lead regulatory inspections, audits, and interactions with government agencies.
- Lead and manage Eco Vadis and Sedex assessments, customer sustainability audits, and social responsibility initiatives, ensuring compliance with customer and industry requirements.
- Develop and maintain EHS policies, procedures, SOPs, and emergency response plans.
- Conduct risk assessments, job hazard analyses (JHAs), and facility safety inspections.
- Investigate workplace accidents, injuries, near misses, and environmental incidents, identifying root causes and implementing corrective actions.
- Monitor and maintain required environmental permits, reporting, and regulatory documentation.
- Oversee hazardous waste management, chemical safety, air emissions, wastewater compliance, and environmental programs.
- Develop and deliver safety training programs for employees, supervisors, contractors, and new hires.
- Lead emergency preparedness activities, including fire safety, evacuation drills, spill response, and business continuity planning.
- Partner with Facilities and Engineering on equipment safety, machine guarding, lockout/tagout (LOTO), confined space, and contractor safety programs.
- Monitor EHS performance metrics and present reports and recommendations to senior leadership.
- Manage workers' compensation safety initiatives and support return-to-work programs in collaboration with Human Resources.
- Promote employee engagement through safety committees, awareness campaigns, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Maintain SDS management systems and ensure proper chemical labeling and storage.
- Stay current with evolving environmental, sustainability, and workplace safety regulations and implement necessary changes.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Environmental Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Industrial Hygiene, Engineering, Occupational Safety, or a related field.
- 5–8+ years of progressive EHS experience in pharmaceutical, chemical, biotechnology, manufacturing, or other regulated industries.
- Prior leadership or supervisory experience.
- Strong working knowledge of OSHA, EPA, NJDEP, DOT, NFPA, and other applicable regulations.
- Required experience managing Eco Vadis and Sedex assessments, sustainability reporting, ethical sourcing requirements, and customer social responsibility audits.
- Experience managing environmental compliance programs, including hazardous waste, air emissions, wastewater, and chemical safety.
- Experience supporting FDA-regulated or cGMP manufacturing environments is strongly preferred.
- Professional certifications such as CSP, ASP, CIH, CHMM, or equivalent are highly desirable.
- Strong leadership, communication, organizational, and project management skills.
- Ability to build strong cross-functional relationships and foster a positive safety culture.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and EHS management systems.
Preferred Experience
- Multi‑site manufacturing responsibility.
- Experience supporting pharmaceutical API and finished dosage manufacturing.
- Experience leading OSHA, environmental, customer, and third‑party audits.
- Experience implementing or maintaining ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 management systems.
- Experience with Process Safety Management (PSM) is a plus.
