Role Overview

The Junior Chemist manages and maintains all internal and external formulas testing, keeps pre‑regulatory documentation up to date, prepares technical presentations for future launches, creates stability templates, issues final reports, and compiles dossiers to release formulas for production.

Hybrid role: 3 days per week in the lab located in Fairfield, New Jersey and 2 days from home.

Responsibilities
  • Batch formulas and conduct internal stability tests; track stability, update results charts, and summarize data for review.
  • Manage all stability reports from external manufacturers and share findings.
  • Collaborate with Senior Scientists to prepare lab batches for new development and reformulate based on marketing feedback.
  • Develop detailed lab‑scale processes for manufacturing, including raw‑material order of addition, processing parameters, and preliminary specifications.
  • Document every batch in the MAESA Lab book with reasons, batching notes, specifications, and test results.
  • Coordinate shipping of samples with vendors (frag base, packaging, etc.).
  • Manage brand trackers for submissions, formulas, samples, and testing for the entire R&D team.
  • Digitally catalog raw‑material samples to track inventory.
  • Prepare R&D innovation presentations for future launches.
  • Maintain digital formula libraries for R&D.
  • Generate tentative Internal Lab summaries for regulatory review.
  • Request and manage formula documents (COA, raw‑material documents) for regulatory approval of internal formulas.
  • Conduct efficacy testing as required and write detailed reports.
  • Communicate formulation stability and efficacy issues promptly to supervisors.
  • Perform and monitor calibration and validation of all lab instruments.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, well‑organized lab area.
  • Work effectively in a fast‑paced environment; self‑motivated and self‑directed.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and autonomous working skills.
  • Expertise in timeline management and multitasking across projects.
Qualifications and Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred in Chemistry, Engineering, or related field.
  • 3–5 years of experience in the beauty or personal‑care industry, including formulation and scale‑up.
  • Experience as a Lab Technician in the personal‑care industry.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to negotiate and influence.

Salary: $66,300 / yr – $85,000 / yr, plus discretionary bonus based on individual and company performance.
