Position Summary

Hayes Pump, the largest industrial, commercial, and municipal pump distributor in the Northeast, is seeking experienced Service Repair Mechanics to join our growing service team.

This position is ideal for a hands‑on mechanic with strong pump repair experience who can independently diagnose, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain a wide variety of pumping systems. The majority of work involves centrifugal, split‑case, and end suction pumps across commercial, industrial, and municipal applications.

The ideal candidate is mechanically inclined, customer‑focused, and capable of working independently both in the field and within the service shop. New Jersey hires are expected to contribute immediately with minimal training.

Key Responsibilities

Diagnose, troubleshoot, repair, and rebuild commercial, industrial, and municipal pumping equipment.

Perform maintenance and repair services on centrifugal, split‑case, and end suction pumps.

Conduct equipment inspections and evaluate repair requirements.

Travel to customer sites to perform field service, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs.

Complete pump start‑ups and operational testing.

Prepare service reports and documentation using company systems.

Perform equipment evaluations and repair work within the service shop.

Communicate repair recommendations and findings to customers and internal teams.

Participate in rotating on‑call service support as required.

Follow all company safety policies and procedures.

Maintain a professional appearance and represent Hayes Pump positively at customer locations.

Required Qualifications

Experience repairing and servicing industrial, commercial, or municipal pumping equipment.

Strong knowledge of centrifugal, split‑case, and end suction pumps.

Ability to troubleshoot mechanical equipment and identify root causes of failures.

Experience working independently in a field service environment.

Strong customer service and communication skills.

Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and work in industrial environments and confined spaces when required.

Ability to safely operate hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment.

Basic computer skills for reporting and documentation.

Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.

Ability to obtain a DOT Medical Card.

Preferred Qualifications

5+ years of pump repair or field service experience.

Experience working with municipal water, wastewater, or industrial pumping systems.

Experience servicing Goulds, Xylem, Gorman‑Rupp, Fairbanks Morse, Grundfos, Viking, Aurora, or similar manufacturers.

Knowledge of electrical controls and motor troubleshooting.

OSHA 10 certification.

Technical or trade school education in a mechanical field.

Minimum 3 years of experience repairing and servicing industrial, commercial, or municipal pumps. Strong experience with centrifugal, split‑case, and end suction pumps preferred. Candidates should be able to troubleshoot mechanical failures, perform repairs independently, and work directly with customers. Field service, rotating equipment, motor, or pump repair experience is highly desirable.

Travel & Schedule

Initial travel requirements are approximately 10–20%.

Travel may increase to 80–90% based on workload and territory needs.

Service territory includes New Jersey with potential expansion into Connecticut.

Travel may involve driving up to two hours each way.

Overnight accommodations are provided when appropriate.

Travel time is compensated.

Typical schedule begins at approximately 5:30 AM, with standard working hours generally from 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM.
