The University of South Alabama, in partnership with the national search firm Scott Healy & Associates, invites applications and nominations for the position of Open‑Rank Faculty Member, Doctor of Physical Therapy Program. The University seeks candidates with a shared vision of educating and impacting future physical therapists and the future of the physical therapy profession.
Applications for a 12‑month, full‑time faculty position in the Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) Program are currently being accepted. The rank of position is open. Rank will be commensurate with the applicant’s qualifications and experience.
Responsibilities- Teaching graduate courses in physical therapy within the one’s area of expertise
- Conducting, publishing, and presenting scholarly work; pursuing extramural funding
- Advising and mentoring students; contributing to student recruitment initiatives
- Collaborating with faculty
- Providing service to the Department, University, and community
- Demonstrated effective teaching practices including ability to create experiential learning opportunities
- Actively engage in program‑related student and community activities
- Eligibility for physical therapy licensure in Alabama
- Academic doctoral degree (Ph.D., Ed.D. or
D.Sc.) in physical therapy or a related field at the time of appointment - Board certification in a clinical specialty with two or more years of didactic teaching experience
Candidates at the assistant level should exhibit strong potential for engaging in high‑quality research and the ability to teach effectively to graduate students.
Candidates at the associate level should have a more established record of scholarly productivity and demonstrate the capacity to teach and mentor DPT students.
Candidates at the full level must demonstrate a well‑established national and/or international record of research productivity, including a documented history of grant funding (e.g., intramural, foundation, and/or federal awards). In addition, the full level should exhibit the capacity to further strengthen the scholarly reputation of the DPT program.
