Position: Academic Advisor TRIO Student Support Services (FH)
The Academic Advisor - TRIO Programs is responsible for the implementation of program activities such as academic counseling, academic advising, tutorials, workshops, seminars, trips, cultural enrichment, and developing educational, career, and life goals for participants. The Academic Advisor will maintain well-organized records and activities in accordance with the requirements specified in the grant application and amendments approved by the U.S. Department of Education.
Appropriate placement on the Alabama Community College System salary schedule C3-4.
This is a grant-funded and probationary status position. Continued employment is dependent on continued funding.

At a minimum, the essential functions of this position shall include:
Assists in the recruitment and selection of eligible program participantsAssists in designing and conducting orientation sessions for program participantsSchedules and meets with program participants regularlyIntegrates best practices to support increased retention, graduation rates, and transfer rates of program participantsAssists program participants in developing educational, career, and life goalsAssists program participants with problem-solving/college-related issues such as encumbrances, tuition issues, computer accounts, registration, etc.Diagnoses academic needs and advises students to register for the appropriate courses for a successful pathway to graduation and transferAssists in identifying, recruiting, assigning, and supervising tutorsAssists in providing tutor training in SSS Policies and ProceduresParticipates in all scheduled registration days for the CollegeOrganizes and participates in college tours, cultural activities, and workshops that promote the goals and outcomes of the program’s objectives (may involve nights and weekends)Establishes and maintains program participant folders in accordance with the specifications of the grant proposal and the U.S. Department of EducationFollows up with program participants to ensure project outcomes and assessments are completedAssists the program director in maintaining program rosters and providing follow-up for federal reportsMaintains comprehensive, timely, and accurate follow-up records for all assigned participantsAll positions at Coastal Alabama have the job responsibilities below:
Handles sensitive information in a confidential manner.Maintains a highly professional attitude and demeanor at all times.Provides responsible, appropriate, and satisfactory leadership on campus and within the College.Communicates positively and professionally in all aspects of the position.Attends all staff meetings, College meetings, and professional development activities.Becomes thoroughly familiar with all pertinent state and national policies and comply with said policies.Serves on and provide information to college committees as needed.Complies with ACCS and College policies, as well as state and federal laws.Ensures the positive promotion of the College and integration of all campuses within the College.Is prompt and punctual in reporting for work, meetings, and office hours.Performs other duties as assigned.Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution in an academic or educational discipline or related field OR equivalent recent relevant full-time work experience (two years of full-time recent relevant work experience for every one year of college).One year of experience in student personnel, career counseling, advising, personal and academic counseling, or related field.Experience working with diverse populationsExcellent communication, organization, and interpersonal skills.Demonstrated skill with social media and online communication toolsExperience in the use of current educational technologies in the workplace including word processing, spreadsheets, databases, and presentation softwarePreferred Qualifications
