Assistant Professor or Assistant Professor of Instruction Department of Occupational Therapy

The University of South Alabama (USA) invites nominations and applications for an Assistant Professor or Assistant Professor of Instruction in the Department of Occupational Therapy. This position is a twelve-month position and may be appointed as either non-tenure track or tenure track, depending on the candidate’s qualifications. USA is a doctoral/research-intensive institution offering a variety of undergraduate and graduate programs. USA is located in the historic southern city of Mobile on beautiful Mobile Bay close to the Gulf Coast beaches and a short drive to New Orleans.

This innovative Occupational Therapy Doctorate program (OTD) is organized around occupational performance areas and has an outstanding reputation.

Applicants must have an earned doctorate in Occupational Therapy or related field (advanced OTD, PhD, EdD, etc.) and hold an OT license from the Alabama State Board of Occupational Therapy. Candidates without a current Alabama State license must be eligible for State licensure. Recent clinical OT experience with adult populations with concentration with geriatric clients is preferred, however, other relevant clinical experience will also be considered.

Previous teaching experience and a record of scholarly productivity are highly valued. This position is a twelve-month faculty position with expectations for scholarly productivity. Candidates seeking the Assistant Professor position on the tenure track should hold a Ph.D. and must also demonstrate a record of scholarly achievement within the profession. Candidates seeking a non-tenure track appointment (e.g. Assistant Professor or Assistant Professor of Instruction) need to have the above listed credentials.

Team-oriented applicants are highly desired. Successful candidates will be prepared to teach courses in the areas of geriatrics, adults, low vision, as well as general OT assessments and intervention topics. This faculty position includes advising OTD students, directing/mentoring doctoral capstone students, contributing to scholarship in the profession, and providing service to the profession and institution. Candidates should possess excellent interpersonal, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
