Carpentry And Construction Worker
Work Schedule:
Monday-Friday 6:00 am- 2:30 pm Under the general supervision of the Streets & Facilities Supervisor, the employee leads work crews in the performance of the full range of general carpentry projects ranging from new construction to basic repair including rough and finish carpentry. The employee performs complex and specialized building maintenance tasks in the areas of cabinetmaking, carpentry, building structural systems, roofing, and building finishes.
The employee also constructs concrete forms for sidewalk installation and repair, storm drains, and curbs throughout the City. Employee receives assignments from supervisor, acts as a crew lead, and is responsible for prioritizing work projects and gathering crews, equipment, and supplies appropriate work assignment. The employee plans and organizes project assignments and manages records and daily logs for the duration of a project.
The employee also maintains safety standards, keeps work time and material records. The employee performs manual labor, bending, stooping, twisting, and lifting. Work is performed under established procedures with regular inspections during progress with final inspection of completed work. This is a fully qualified job in the construction and maintenance job classification. This job is considered safety-sensitive and is subject to pre-employment background check and random drug screens.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTION:
General Carpentry. Employee performs the full range master carpentry skills from rough construction up to and including finish work. Employee builds and repairs City structures and buildings, cabinets and select furniture.
Reviews and follows blueprints and building plans to ensure work meets the needs of the City.Estimates time and materials required to complete a project.Constructs new structures from the foundation to completion.Performs complex and varied building construction, maintenance, and renovation tasks in the cabinetmaking, carpentry, structural, and building finishes areas.Measures, cuts, and shapes wood, plastic, and other materials.Constructs and installs building frameworks, including walls, floors, door frames, and molding.Constructs walls, partitions, and dividers.Lays out flooring, roofing or drywall ensuring they are level and compatible with other project work.Constructs case work and mill work.Carves, assembles, and repairs furniture, shelves, and other items; installs where designated.Inspects, repairs, and replaces damaged wood, framework, or other structures and fixtures.Repairs structural components such as framing and headwalls and installs building components such as doors and windows.Designs and constructs cabinets and shelving for projects.Performs intricate finish and trim work of carpentry projects.Builds scaffolding and other construction structures to support projects.Performs emergency and minor repairs to roofing systems, including shingles, built-up membrane, and standing-seam metal.Assesses repair requirements for roofing work to be performed by others and monitors the performance of the repair activity.ESSENTIAL FUNCTION:
Work Crew Leader. Employee leads work crews in assigned carpentry projects.
Receives project assignments from supervisor.Instructs and directs laborers and other construction helpers.Creates a program/schedule for the use of materials and associated equipment for carpentry work projects.Ensures work crews observe safety standards and maintain a safe work environment.Maintains activity log accounting for time and materials of a project.ESSENTIAL FUNCTION:
Street Construction and Maintenance Work. Employee performs concrete form layout and constructs forms for sidewalk repair, storm drains, curbing, and drain boxes.
Reviews construction blueprints for correctness.Takes measurements and estimates requirement wood and materials.Shoots elevations and determines correct slope to ensure proper flow will be achieved.Measures and cuts materials to build forms for concrete pours.Spreads, rakes, and finishes concrete to complete a pour.NON-ESSENTIAL FUNCTION:Assists with City special events such as placing barricades and barriers.Assists with traffic control as assigned.Responds to emergency calls during hurricanes, inclement weather, or other emergency situations.Performs other job-related duties as required or assigned.Minimum Qualifications
