Position: Program Assistant /Computer Lab Facilitator
Position Summary The Part-Time Program Assistant & Computer Lab Facilitator supports the delivery of high-quality after-school and educational enrichment programs at MHP community sites throughout Montgomery County. Working under the supervision of the Program Manager, Site Coordinator, Lead Teacher, or Lead Instructor, this position helps create a safe, engaging, and supportive learning environment where students can strengthen academic skills through technology-based learning activities.

The Program Assistant & Computer Lab Facilitator monitors student participation, provides academic and technical support, tracks student progress, assists with classroom management, and helps ensure the smooth operation of daily program activities. This position may also serve as the on-site program lead in the absence of the Lead Teacher or Lead Instructor.

Duties and Responsibilities Program and Student Support Supervise students in the computer lab and other program settings to ensure a safe and positive learning environment.

Assist students with educational software, online learning platforms, and technology-based activities.

Support students in achieving literacy, academic, and individualized learning goals.

Provide encouragement, guidance, and age-appropriate academic assistance.

Help identify students' learning needs and communicate observations to program leadership.

Monitor student engagement and address minor behavioral concerns using established program guidelines.

Report significant behavioral, safety, or academic concerns to the Program Manager, Site Coordinator, or Lead Teacher.

Computer Lab Operations Prepare the computer lab and equipment prior to student arrival.

Ensure computers, software, and educational platforms are functioning properly.

Assist students with logging in, navigating software, and troubleshooting basic technology issues.

Maintain an organized, clean, and welcoming computer lab environment.

Report equipment or technology issues to the appropriate staff member.

Student Progress and Reporting Monitor student participation and academic progress using educational software and program tools.

Maintain accurate attendance records.

Provide regular updates regarding student performance, engagement, and program participation.

Assist with documenting student achievements, learning goals, and progress as requested.

Program Leadership Support Escort student groups to and from the computer lab as needed.

Support daily program activities, transitions, and schedules.

Participate in field trips, special events, family engagement activities, and program celebrations.

Serve as acting lead staff member when the Lead Teacher or Lead Instructor is absent, as assigned.

Collaborate effectively with program staff, families, and community partners.

Administrative Responsibilities Attend required meetings, trainings, and professional development opportunities.

Submit timesheets, reports, and other required documentation accurately and on time.

Follow all MHP policies, procedures, and safety protocols.

Perform other duties as assigned to support program success.

Required Qualifications Minimum age of 15 years with a valid work permit, if required.

Interest in working with children and youth in an educational or community-based setting.

Basic computer and technology skills.

Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse cultural, socioeconomic, and linguistic backgrounds.

Ability to work independently while contributing positively to a team environment.

Reliable, organized, and able to manage multiple responsibilities.

Preferred Qualifications Experience working with children, youth programs, tutoring, mentoring, or educational activities.

Experience using educational technology platforms or learning software.
