Job GoalAppropriate interaction with all students and their parents, and work in close collaboration with other teachers within the department, colleagues, and the school administration. Demonstrate strong teaching skills, exceptional organization, appropriate classroom management, and be child-centered in all aspects of the position. Descriptionof Duties
Design and deliver effective lessons that accommodate the diverse learning needs of students with disabilities, utilizing evidence-based instructional strategies. Establish and maintain a structured and supportive classroom environment that promotes positive behavior and engagement. Engage in ongoing professional learning to stay current with best practices in special education and comply with state licensure requirements.
Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the common core state standards, effective instructional strategies, classroom management, learning assessment and diagnosis, and research related to learning:
- Plan and execute lessons aligned to Illinois Mandated Units of Study and Common Core State Standards
- Provide differentiated learning experiences for the range of skill levels and developmental needs of the students
- Adapt lessons for students with IEPs or Section 504 Plans, as appropriate. Participate in Special Education staffing with colleagues and parents
- Write IEP goals and monitor the progress of the goals
- Administer progress monitoring, benchmarking, and common assessments. Analyze data results to guide instruction
- Have a working knowledge of RtI and the referral process
- Submit lesson plans to the Principal or designee as required
- Discipline students fairly and consistently, aligned to school district-approved policies and procedures
- Maintain regular communication with parents
- Maintain all instructional spaces, including the outdoor facilities, with the health and safety of the students and staff in mind. Report any unsafe conditions to school officials
- Complete all records and reports required by law and as requested by the school administration on time
- Meet accepted standards of professional behavior
- Exhibit professionalism and commitment through punctuality and attendance
- Attend staff meetings, professional development, and serve on staff committees, as appropriate
- Contribute to fostering a spirit of teamwork and collaboration with all faculty and staff
- All other duties as assigned
- Passion for working with intermediate and middle school students
- Illinois Professional Licensure and LBS1 endorsement
- Adept at consistently incorporating technology in instruction
- Experience with NWEA MAP, AIMSweb, EasyCBM, and IAR, a plus
- Knowledge of the IEP process and timelines as required by law
- Experience writing IEP goals
- Driven to excel at teaching and learning
- Highly motivated self-starter, with a tireless work ethic, needing little direct supervision
- Sustain a culture of high expectations
- Serve as a wholesome role model for students
- Lead with integrity
Full-time, Contract
Terms of EmploymentSalary and benefits per the Teacher's
Contract:
$50,627 to $68,243 depending on degrees and years of experience. Fairmont School District 89 offers up to 10 years of experience.

8 am-3 pm - Monday-Friday, except on days when there are staff meetings, mentoring meetings, and committee meetings, which are held from 3 pm-4 pm. Late hours for P/T conferences and Parent Literacy or Math Nights, as well as 8th Grade Graduation, are required.
New Employee Orientation - August 6 and August 7, 2025 (8 am-3 pm)
Voluntary Staff Training Days (paid), but highly encouraged - August 4, 2025 (8 am-3 pm) and August 5, 2025 (8 am-3 pm)
Back-to-School Bash - August 7, 2024 (3:30 pm-5:30 pm). This is voluntary, but highly encouraged. It is a great opportunity to meet your students, families, and other staff.
Teacher Institute Days - August 11, 2025, and August 12, 2025 (8 am-3 pm);
First day of school - August 13, 2025.
Any meetings that are not a part of the contract will be paid at $55/hr also, opportunities for after-school tutoring and summer school at $55/hr possibility of coaching positions per the contract.
