Accountant II

Express Employment Professionals is partnering with a local higher education institution to recruit a full-time Accountant II in Fairmont, WV
. This accounting position will support financial operations with a focus on fixed asset accounting, capital projects, financial reporting, account reconciliations, journal entries, and audit support
.

This is an excellent opportunity for an accounting professional with 1–3 years of experience who is detail-oriented, analytical, and interested in building expertise in fixed assets, construction and capital projects, fund accounting, and complex financial records
.

• Manage the fixed asset accounting process
  , including identifying, documenting, recording, reconciling, monitoring, and disposing of long-term assets.
• Maintain the fixed asset subledger and process entries for gains or losses related to asset disposals.
• Reconcile fixed asset records to the general ledger and research discrepancies.
• Coordinate with internal departments to ensure assets are properly tagged, recorded, and maintained.
• Assist with periodic physical asset inspections and resolve discrepancies.
• Manage accounting activities for capital and campus projects
  , including project setup, financial monitoring, and closeout.
• Maintain capital project funds and process Construction in Process (CIP) accounting entries.
• Partner with Finance, project managers, facilities, and operations teams to monitor project financial performance and identify variances.
• Prepare and process journal entries, reconciliations, and accounting adjustments
  .
• Assist with month-end and year-end closing activities.
• Prepare audit documentation and assist with financial audit work papers.
• Maintain compliance with organizational policies,
  fund accounting requirements
  , and applicable financial regulations.

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field
  , or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• 1–3 years of accounting, finance, budgeting, or related experience
  .
• Strong attention to detail and a high level of accuracy.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong proficiency with Microsoft Excel
  , including formulas, data sorting, and Pivot Tables.
• Basic understanding of GAAP or fund accounting principles
  .
• Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
• High level of integrity and discretion when handling confidential financial information.

• Experience with fixed assets, capital projects, construction accounting, or fund accounting
  .
• Understanding of GAAP and GASB accounting standards
  .
• Experience preparing reconciliations and journal entries.
• Experience with month-end and year-end close processes
  .
• Experience supporting financial audits or preparing audit work papers and documentation.
• Experience using an ERP or accounting software system
  .
• Higher education, nonprofit, government, or other fund accounting experience is a plus.
