The ideal candidate brings a creative spirit, a student-centered teaching philosophy, and a commitment to design as both a craft and a catalyst for community transformation. You will teach across both our undergraduate B.S. Architecture and graduate M.Arch programs, contribute to our vibrant studio culture, and help continue building an architecture program rooted in relevance, regional engagement, and global awareness.
- Teach undergraduate and graduate design studios, lecture courses, or seminars.
- Mentor students as emerging designers and thinkers from a wide range of backgrounds.
- Build a meaningful research or creative practice agenda—whether regionally rooted or globally linked.
- Contribute to ongoing curriculum development and NAAB accreditation work.
- Collaborate with colleagues across architecture, art, and design as part of a vibrant interdisciplinary department.
- Help further the college’s mission of integrating creative, scientific, and technological learning.
- Serve as the coordinator for the Architecture Graduate Program
- Serve as the Architecture Representative on the Fairmont State Graduate Council
Tenure-Track faculty in the Department of Architecture, Art & Design carry a standard academic teaching load of 12 credit hours per semester, typically including design studios and supportive coursework.
Minimum Required Education A Master’s degree in Architecture, MArch, or closely related field.
Required Licenses and/or Certifications
· Architectural licensure (U.S. or international equivalent)
Minimum Required Qualifications
- Minimum of two years of teaching experience and five years of practical experience.
- Demonstrated potential for effective teaching in studio and/or lecture formats.
- Evidence of creative work, scholarship, or professional engagement.
- Ability to work effectively with diverse learners and colleagues.
Preferred Qualifications
- Ph.D. or additional terminal degree in a design or research field
- Teaching experience at the university level
- Expertise in one or more focus areas, such as:
- Sustainable design and building performance
- Architectural technology or digital fabrication
- Community design or urbanism
- Design-build
- History/theory
- Professional practice
- Experience with NAAB accreditation
- Engagement with community-based or public-interest design
