Job Description

Fairmont State University, a public institution in West Virginia, is offering adjunct faculty positions for the 2026/2027 academic year.

• Teach assigned courses as scheduled and meet all designated class periods.
• Prepare course materials such as syllabi, lectures, and assignments.
• Engage students in active learning and facilitate meaningful class discussions.
• Assess student learning through examinations, quizzes, and other assignments.
• Provide timely feedback to students and maintain records of their progress.
• Maintain regular office hours for student consultation and support.
• Submit assessment reporting data and materials and participate in departmental assessment activities, as required by supervisor.
• Post syllabus and maintain gradebook in Blackboard or other official online course delivery platform.

• Master’s degree or higher in the discipline to be taught; preferred prior teaching experience. Degree must be from a regionally or nationally accredited institution recognized by the U.S. Department of Education, Council for Higher Education Accreditation, or equivalent.
• Adjunct faculty teaching in graduate programs should hold the terminal degree in the discipline and have a record of research, scholarship, or achievement appropriate for the graduate program.

• Prior teaching experience at the college or university level is desirable.
• Demonstrated knowledge and expertise in the subject area of the course(s) to be taught.
• Commitment to excellence in teaching and student-centered learning.
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills.

• Previous Blackboard experience preferred.

• Part-time faculty are appointed only for the current semester in which they are teaching; no guarantees are made for continuing employment.
• Due to Affordable Care Act provisions, adjunct employees may not work for or hold an adjunct assignment more than nine (9) credit hours per semester total, or 27 hours per week.
