Fairmont State University is seeking highly motivated professional educators to deliver online American Government courses to our Dual Enrollment student population. Dual Enrollment students are those currently in high school and are enrolled in university coursework for which they receive both college credit and credit toward their high school graduation requirements. Candidates should be very comfortable working with high school‑aged students in a non‑online modality, as well as coordinating with secondary K‑12 partners, and university faculty and staff.
Responsibilities- Teach assigned courses as scheduled and meet all designated class periods.
- Prepare course materials such as syllabi, lectures, and assignments.
- Engage students in active learning and facilitate meaningful class discussions.
- Assess student learning through examinations, quizzes, and other assignments.
- Provide timely feedback to students and maintain records of their progress.
- Maintain regular office hours for student consultation and support.
- Submit assessment reporting data and materials and participate in departmental assessment activities, as required by supervisor.
- Post syllabus and maintain gradebook in Blackboard or other official online course delivery platform.
- Coordinate on‑site student activities and evaluation with cooperating high school facilitators, as needed.
- Participate in Dual Enrollment faculty development offerings.
- At least 18 hours of graduate work in the subject area of the course(s) to be taught. (Master’s degree or higher preferred.) All credits or degrees must be from a regionally or nationally accredited institution recognized by the U.S. Department of Education or the Council for Higher Education Accreditation, or equivalent.
- Prior teaching experience at both the college/university level and the high school level is desirable.
- Demonstrated knowledge and expertise in the subject area of the course(s) to be taught.
- Commitment to excellence in teaching and student‑centered teaching.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
- Quality Matters certification preferred.
- Part‑time faculty are appointed only for the current semester in which they are teaching, and no guarantees are made for continuing employment.
- Due to Affordable Care Act provisions, adjunct employees may not work for or hold an adjunct assignment more than nine (9) credit hours per semester total, or 27 hours per week. The hours can be divided between Fairmont State and another WV public institution/agency, but the total credit hours must still equal nine or fewer or 27 hpw or fewer. This stipulation is due to Affordable Care Act requirements and costs for the institutions.
