Fairmont State is seeking a dynamic, student-centered, and collaborative Academic Success Coordinator for Transfer Students to support and facilitate the successful transition, integration, and academic achievement of transfer students. This position serves as a key resource for prospective and incoming transfer students by providing transfer planning, preliminary academic advising, degree completion support, and guidance throughout the transfer process.
Job SummaryThe Academic Success Coordinator for Transfer Students will support and facilitate the transition of incoming transfer students by working collaboratively with faculty, staff, academic leadership, and administrative units to advance a culture of transfer-friendly initiatives that ensure smooth transitions and best outcomes for individual students. The Academic Success Coordinator for Transfer Students will ensure a smooth transition for incoming transfer students by coordinating learning equivalency documentation, communicating with key stakeholders, and working across departments to ensure operational efficiency and positive student experiences.
This role is responsible for contributing to and ensuring transfer alignment with institutional priorities, strategic planning, and accreditation expectations, including those of the Higher Learning Commission.
- In collaboration with campus partners, informally evaluate academic transcripts, learning histories, and other educational records according to institutional and state standards.
- Provide transfer planning, preliminary academic advising, and degree completion support.
- Assist students in the preliminary development of educational and professional goals and the implementation of plans to meet those goals.
- Maintain comprehensive transfer records, track trends, and analyze data to continuously enhance the effectiveness and impact of the transfer process.
- Identify and resolve transfer-related issues through proactive follow-up and problem-solving.
- Assist with developing and updating transfer student resources, including virtually and in print.
- Participate in admissions events, such as New Student Orientation, Finish What You Started, and Maroon & White Day.
- Partner with various departments to plan transfer-friendly orientation events.
- Advise on academic transition pathways from 2-year partner institutions to Fairmont State, offering enrollment support and supplemental advising.
- Create and support post-transfer resources and initiatives on campus (e.g., peer mentor program, transfer awareness days/activities).
- Develop social media initiatives highlighting transfer identities and journeys.
- Foster a sense of mattering and belonging among transfer students; build a transfer Falcon community.
- Serve as the point of contact for incoming transfer student athletes, coaches, and athletic administration.
- Facilitate training, workshops, and guidance for faculty, advisors, admissions, staff, and students regarding the transfer process.
- Participate in relevant workshops, conferences, and professional development.
Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution.
MinimumRequired Qualifications
- At least two (2) years higher education experience in student services, academic advising, admissions, or a related role.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and project management skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with faculty, staff, and academic leaders across disciplines.
- Willingness and ability to quickly learn and adapt.
- Experience with transfer credit evaluation systems.
- Experience with higher education and student information systems, such as:
Ellucian Banner ERP system, Argos, FELIX, Degree Works, Slate, EAB Navigate
360, Blackboard, Taskstream, Microsoft Office 365, People Admin, and WV Auditor/Kronos. - Knowledge of relevant policies, compliance standards, or accreditation requirements.
