Position: Early Childhood Classroom Assistant Teacher / Aide / Paraprofessional
Location: Flatwoods Elementary School, Flatwoods, WV
Employment Type: Standard 200 day contract

Job SummaryPersonnel selected and trained for teacher‑aide classifications working in Kindergarten (including pre‑kindergarten), first, second, or third grade classrooms, and meeting early childhood classroom assistant teacher minimum requirements (permanent, temporary, or paraprofessional). Employee must remain free of alcohol or non‑prescribed drugs and serve as a role model for students, maintaining professional conduct and respecting privacy and safety.
Performance Responsibilities- Provide individual or small group instruction under teacher supervision.
- Participate in comprehensive training and implementation of literacy and numeracy practices (Third Grade Success Act) for grades 1‑3.
- Provide students with individualized attention and assist in grading assignments.
- Set up and operate instructional equipment and assist in material preparation.
- Assist teacher in escorting students to/from bus, providing library assistance, and preparing snacks.
- Supervise special needs students in the regular classroom and maintain classroom inventories.
- Modify materials and implement accommodations for special needs students.
- Maintain safety habits, perform clerical duties, and monitor medications administered to students.
- Maintain confidentiality of student records.
- Operations: screen school days, manage office tasks, and collaborate with supervisors.
- Perform other related tasks as assigned by the principal or superintendent.
Physical demands include stooping, reaching, standing, walking, lifting, pulling, pushing, and repetitive motions. Employee may need to lift up to 100 pounds. Work environment noise level is moderate to loud (60‑90 dB). Reasonable accommodations are available for qualified individuals with disabilities.
Qualifications- High school diploma or equivalent, pursuant to WV Code §18A‑2‑5.
- Meet qualifications definition in WV Code §18A‑4‑8b and demonstrate competency via state‑approved test.
- Criminal background check conducted pursuant to WV Code §§18‑5‑15c and 18A‑3‑10.
- Holding one of the WVDE certificates:
Aide I, Aide II, Aide III, Aide IV, or Early Childhood Classroom Assistant Teacher I‑III, per state definitions. - State Aide test passed (required for consideration).
- Non‑excluded status (no dismissal, unsatisfactory evaluations, harmful conduct).
