Chemistry/Biology Tutor

Academic Advisor and Tutor for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) courses, with a primary focus on Chemistry and secondary support for Mathematics, Physics, and Biology as needed.

Responsibilities
  • Explain concepts and review material with students in one‑on‑one or small group settings.
  • Assist students in developing study skills and organizational strategies.
  • Monitor student progress and adjust tutoring methods as needed.
  • Refer students to other Center or campus resources as appropriate.
  • Consult with faculty for course resources, guidance, and direction in the tutoring work; communicate feedback to ensure effective support.
  • Maintain confidentiality and professionalism in all interactions with students.
  • Serve as a positive role model and mentor, promoting a constructive learning environment and academic success for all students.
  • Assist in LEAD Center marketing efforts, including introducing themselves to classes being tutored and making classroom announcements for LEAD Center programs.
Qualifications
  • Currently enrolled undergraduate or graduate Fairmont State student, or graduate student who completed their bachelor’s at Fairmont State University.
  • Minimum QPA of 3.0, or bachelor’s degree in the discipline. Undergraduate students must have earned a B or better in the courses they intend to support.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Good organizational and time‑management skills.
  • A commitment to helping other students learn.
  • Maintain confidentiality and professionalism in all interactions with students.
  • Be empathetic, a good listener, and patient with others.
  • Satisfactory completion of the training program.
Compensation

Base hourly rate: $13.00–$16.00.

Location & Reporting

Academic Affairs – Main Campus. Reports to Coordinator of LEAD Center.
