Pay Grade: 755 (Exempt)
Salary: $92,447.00 (through 7/5/26) $95,220.00 (effective 7/6/26)
General Description of the Work of the Position:
This is a highly responsible administrative and engineering position involving the direction of the Engineering Department of the Utility Departments in the planning, design and construction of capital improvement projects and day-to-day operations.
The Senior Engineering Tech furnishes engineering advice to all City departments. The Senior Engineer reviews all engineering design work and acts as a liaison with consulting engineers on projects undertaken by the City of Fairmont. The Senior Engineering Tech assists with compliance with WV DSC, WV DEP, WV BPH rules and regulations.
Work performed will be in accordance with the dictates of the engineering profession, City ordinances and procedural policies. The Senior Engineering Tech works with a considerable amount of independence and initiative in accomplishing program objectives.
Duties of the Position (Illustrative Only):
The Senior Engineering Tech plans, organizes and directs the activities of the Engineering Department of the Utility Departments, oversees the planning, design and construction of Sanitary Sewer Board, Water Department, Storm Water and General Fund projects. Manages the geographical information system of the Utility Departments. Reviews proposed subdivisions for compliance to City of Fairmont standards in the areas of road construction, storm water drainage control, sanitary sewage, and water distribution.
Other duties as assigned.
Description of Supervision Received by an Incumbent of the Position:
Reports to and receives direction from the Utility Manager, Professional Engineer or designee.
Description of Supervision Exercised by an Incumbent of the Position:
Supervises and directs the employees in the Engineering Department of the Utility Departments.

Skills and Abilities
Required:
This position requires an extensive knowledge of civil engineering practices and methods. The Senior Engineering Tech must be able to communicate effectively.
Education and/or Experience Necessary for Work Preparation:
Requirements are a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited college or university. Knowledge and experience in Water, Sewer, Stormwater Utilities, Municipal separate storm sewer systems, (MS4) and Combined sewer overflow regulations are preferred but not required. Must possess a valid driver's license. Five or more years of experience managing an engineering department, experience with development, WV DEP NPDES permits, PSC rules and regulations pertinent to water and sewer
