The Financial Reporting Manager supports the financial operations of Fairmont State University by collecting, reviewing and analyzing financial data for external and internal financial reporting requirements. This role assists in producing timely, accurate and compliant financial reports while adhering to federal, state and institutional regulations and guidelines, maintains strong communication and relationships with the campus community and key financial stakeholders.
Operational Duties- Internal Reporting –
- Assist with monthly, quarterly and year-end closing activities,including but not limited to preparing accrual entries, completing,reviewing and correcting journal entries, account reconciliations,and financial data to ensure the accuracy of financial information
- Collect interim financial data, identify significant variances,interpret data, and collaborate with the Finance team to compilemonthly financial statements
- Create regular, recurring and ad hoc internal reports as neededto support university-wide decision-making
- Internal reporting includes but is not limited to financial statements, capital project budget reports, fixed asset reports andproformas
- External Reporting –
- Collaborate with Institutional Resources to complete all required and requested external reporting in compliance with state,federal and higher education reporting requirements for various third-party stakeholders
- External reporting includes but is not limited to Internal Revenue Service ( IRS ), National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA ), Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System (IPEDS),Higher Education Policy Commission (HEPC ) and the State of West Virginia.
- Audit Coordination –
- Assist Finance leaders with the preparation of the University’sannual audited consolidated financial statements, ensuring accuracy and compliance with policies, federal and state laws, Generally Accepted Accounting Principles ( GAAP ) and Governmental Accounting Standards Board ( GASB ) standards. Duties include but are not limited to developing work papers, preparing schedules, creating andreviewing journal entries and collecting documentation.
- Audits include but are not limited to National Collegiate Athletic Association ( NCAA ), Research & Development (R&D) and Single Financial Audit (SFA )
- Policy Development:
Work with Finance team to evaluate, update,implement and document departmental and university-wide financial policies and procedures. - Unit
Collaboration:
Collaboration includes but is not limitedto, partnering with the Finance Team to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting and to ensure alignment between budget andactual reporting; and collaborating with departments across the university to promote clear understanding of financial data and processes - Improvement:
Drive continuous improvement by automating manual processes and enhancing ERP system functionality in conjunction with the State of WV’s ERP system
- Participates in other projects and performs other duties as assigned.
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administrationor a related business field (or equivalent combination of education and experience).

MinimumRequired Qualifications
- 3-5 years prior experience with Finance, Accounting or Budgets,however, any equivalent combination of education and/or experience is acceptable which provides an applicant with the listed knowledge, skills, abilities and capability to perform the essential functions of the job
- High attention to detail and strong written and verbal communication skills
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel (including formulas, data sorting, and pivot tables).
- Strict ethical standards for handling data confidentiality
- Experience with higher education finances
- Experience with annual audit coordination
- Strong understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles ( GAAP ) and Governmental Accounting Standard Board (GASB )
