A Registered Nurse who is responsible for triaging incoming patient’s calls, assessing needs, giving appropriate clinical dispositions, and facilitating referrals to WVU Medicine primary care and specialty care providers.

The nurse will also educate the patient when appropriate regarding immediate care advice and preventive behaviors.

Minimum Qualifications

Current Registered Nurse license issued by the state in which services will be provided or current multi-state Registered Nurse license through the enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact (eNLC).
Obtain certification in Basic Life Support within 30 days of hire date.
Three (3) years of nursing experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree in nursing.
Care coordination experience.
Prior triage nursing or ambulatory nursing experience.

Core Duties and Responsibilities

Professional assessment of callers needs using established criteria and protocols while performing accurate, concise and timely documentation.

Uses established software, online resources, written materials and nursing background to provide callers with appropriate medical information.

Identifies problems or gaps in care offering opportunity for intervention.

Facilitates referrals within our clinics by scheduling and coordinating either a clinic appointment, e-visit or telehealth visit with a provider.

Supports consumers in selection of best physician and facility to maximize access, quality, and to manage healthcare cost.

Provides health education and coaches consumers on treatment alternatives to assist them in best decision making.

Identifies the nature and urgency of patient’s health care needs and determines appropriate disposition via telephone.

Documents all conversations with patients to maintain a comprehensive medical record.

Supports a team environment which allows clear communication, positive support and creative thinking.

Physical Requirements

Frequent walking, standing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping are necessary body movements utilized in performing duties through the work shift.

Ability to sit for extended periods of time.

Working Environment

Standard call center office environment.

Skills and Abilities

Ability to handle and maintain confidential information.
Ability to work in a fast paced and rapidly changing environment.
Excellent oral and written communication skills as well as strong organizational and motivational skills.
Must be flexible.
