The UTILITY PERSON leads the crew and assists in performing a variety of skilled and semi-skilled duties and special assignments relative to the installation, operation, repair, and maintenance of natural gas infrastructure.

• Oversee crew activities, providing direction and guidance regarding work assignments, task execution, safety practices, etc.
• Perform a combination of skilled and semi-skilled duties relative to the installation, operation, repair, and maintenance of equipment and facilities.
• Assist in and provide direction regarding the installation, connection, and disconnection of large displacement, orifice, domestic, commercial, and industrial meters; make periodic and other required meter changes, conduct required inspections and tests of both commercial and residential
• facilities.
• Assist in and provide direction regarding the installation of gas regulating and measuring stations.
• Assist in and provide direction regarding the laying of new and replacement mains, and/or make service connections and install service lines on low, intermediate, and high-pressure pipelines.
• Assist in and provide direction regarding repairs and servicing of main and service lines and other gas distribution facilities.
• Investigate customer complaints pertaining to gas odors, fumes, and leakage using approved gas detection equipment as needed.
• May operate power driving boring machine and/or power driven tapping and plugging machines on high-pressure lines.
• Prepare records and reports as required using a variety of input methods (i.e., paper, electronic).
• Follows appropriate standard operating procedures.
• Promote good customer and public relations.
• Maintain records documenting compliance with appropriate procedures and regulations.
• Ensure all equipment is maintained in safe, functional, and compliant working conditions.
• May perform other duties as required in higher or lower job classifications as appropriate based upon operator qualifications (OQs).
• Follow all safety protocols and wear appropriate PPE (Personal Protective Equipment), complying with all OSHA, DOT, and company-specific safety regulations.
• Participate in safety meetings, training, and emergency response drills as appropriate.
• Identify and report unsafe conditions or potential hazards.
