Building Maintenance Laborer - Public Works SUMMARY OF POSITION

Position involves performing building maintenance and repair functions for the City of Fairview Heights' municipal buildings.

• Perform routine maintenance to building system equipment of City owned buildings
• Perform repair activities to building systems including mechanical, plumbing, electrical, and HVAC
• Evaluate causes of equipment malfunctions and repair as needed
• Work in coordination with all departments in City government to accomplish assigned duties
• Purchase supplies and materials required for maintenance and repair of City buildings
• Assist Street Division with snow and ice removal operations on City streets
• Other duties as assigned

• High school graduate or equivalent
• Two years of experience in building maintenance in a commercial setting
• Possess a degree and/or certificate in HVAC or Commercial Maintenance
• Certified as a refrigerant handler
• Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL)
• Must possess a clean driving record

• Working knowledge of basic building maintenance equipment with ability to accomplish repairs
• Knowledge to troubleshoot and repair mechanical, electrical, plumbing, lighting, refrigeration, and alarm systems in a commercial building
• Ability to work during off duty hours as needed
• Ability to coordinate activities with other Departments in the organization
• Ability to work effectively with salesmen, contractors, repair personnel, etc.

The employee will be working near moving mechanical parts and in outside weather conditions and is regularly exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and risk of electrical shock. The employee will work in high, precarious places and may be exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles and extreme heat. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds on a regular basis
• Ability to lift up to 100 pounds on an occasional basis
• Ability to bend, stretch, squat or crouch on a regular basis
