Job Title: CDF Freedom Schools® Summer Site Coordinator (Middle School)

Job Summary:

The Summer Site Coordinator will collaboratively develop and implement instructional, curricular, assessment, operational, budgetary, and personnel job functions of Children’s Defense Fund’s (CDF) Freedom Schools® and related summer programs to ensure high levels of student engagement and improve individual student performance.

This assignment will require the Summer School Site Coordinator to attend both asynchronous and synchronous virtual training sessions from March 19–22, 2026 the National Training which will be held in person at the CDF training site in Knoxville, TN from June 3-7, 2026, and 2-days of onsite professional development at the school you’ll be placed. In addition, they will help plan the pre and post National Training sessions that will be virtual.

Tentative dates for Summer School 2026 are July 6 – July 31.

Job Goals:

To use leadership, instructional, managerial, and administrative skills to ensure racial equity, academic growth and achievement, and the educational development of each student.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Follow and adhere to the guidelines and requirements of summer school grant(s).
  • Collaboratively lead Servant Leader Intern in-service.
  • Supervise Servant Leader Interns.
  • Monitor progress and keep data on student achievement.
  • Coordinate with the transportation and nutrition department to provide services to students.
  • Communicate with families about the summer school program.
  • Be a point of contact for teachers, interns, staff, and community for information or in case of emergency.
  • Address needs as they arise including those related to implementation of the integrated reading curriculum, attendance, and student conduct.
  • Possesses an effective, proactive communication style welcoming to students, families, staff.
  • Work on-site during summer programming to be available to staff, students, and families.

Knowledge, Skills or Abilities

Required:

  • Knowledge of the CDF Integrated Reading Curriculum, cultural competence, district policies, and strategies to support students’ social and emotional well‑being.
  • Skills to appropriately manage personnel and programs, communicate effectively, and to lead the development of the program essentials.
  • Abilities to sit or stand for prolonged periods, provide direction to others, and make independent judgments; keep and maintain accurate records, meet deadlines, communicate with individuals of varied cultural and educational backgrounds, and communicate effectively in both oral and written form.
  • Ability to generate written memorandums, SLI evaluations, routine reports, and correspondence with business and public contacts.
  • Significant physical abilities include manual dexterity, talking/hearing conversations, near/far visual acuity/depth perception/visual accommodation.

Essential Duties:

The Site Coordinator will report to the Executive Director of Reynolds Summer Freedom Schools. Work in collaboration with direct supervisor and building leaders to recruit scholars, supervise and support summer school SLIs, observe in‑class performance of SLIs, and provide coaching as needed regarding classroom environment, integrated reading curriculum, and student performance. Site coordinator only supervises servant leader interns.

Experience

Required:

  • Completed at least one year of Servant Leader Intern or Site Coordinator experience at a CDF Freedom Schools site is preferred.
  • Possess strong leadership and management skills to lead and motivate an intergenerational staff.
  • Ability to translate a strategic plan into direct implementation.
  • Ability to motivate others, pay attention to detail, and lead long‑term planning.
  • Solid commitment to the success and well‑being of children and youth.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Exhibit positive behavior and attitude, modeling a mature and professional demeanor.
  • Ability to attend all mandatory training and meetings as required by the CDF Freedom Schools national staff.
  • Ability to implement the CDF Freedom Schools Program with full fidelity.
