JOB TITLE
VICE PRINCIPAL – MLA ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
REPORTS TOBUILDING PRINCIPAL

BASIC FUNCTIONSUnder the direction and supervision of the Principal, the Vice Principal position is responsible for assisting the principal in the leadership, coordination, student supervision, and management of school programs and operation within the scope of TSPC rules or Charter School criteria.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES- Provide a safe and orderly learning environment with collective responsibility for student growth and achievement.
- Assist in the establishment and maintenance of a culturally competent learning climate.
- Maintain student discipline; create and follow through with special discipline cases.
- Implement and evaluate PBIS school-wide by collecting and analyzing student behavioral data, monitoring discipline trends, and developing targeted action plans.
- Make recommendations to the Elementary School Principal about student detentions, in-school suspensions, and expulsions.
- Organize, coordinate, administer, and evaluate student attendance; keep attendance records; make related reports; make the final determination if attendance is excused or not based on MLA policies and Oregon Revised Statutes.
- Counsel students and families about MLA policies concerning attendance and behavior.
- Supervise students before/after school; during passing time, lunches, and in-school suspensions; and assist the Elementary School Principal during after-school activities.
- Assist in the coordination of transportation, custodial services, and other school support services.
- Assist in conducting school safety inspections and safety drill practice activities.
- Facilitate communication between staff, students, and families to evaluate situations, solve problems, and resolve conflicts.
- Build and sustain positive school-community relationships by engaging families, volunteers, outside agencies, and community groups to support and advance MLA’s school programs.
- Co-lead the MTSS process including data analysis and recommendations for RTI and PBIS.
- Provide feedback and recommend improvement of classroom management using PBIS data.
- Assist in scheduling and coordinating state and school‑wide MLA‑mandated assessments.
- Assist the Elementary School Principal in collecting and analyzing student achievement data (both formative and summative), reporting findings to staff, and creating a plan for instruction improvement and increasing achievement levels through the PLC process.
- Assist staff in planning and implementing individual student behavior plans in accordance with MLA policies.
- Propose and assist in the development of class schedules, course assignments, and extra‑curricular activities that provide equitable opportunities.
- Monitor MLA professional staff development workshop goals, providing specific feedback and recommendations to staff.
- Support instructional improvement by conducting walk‑through observations, reviewing lesson plans, providing targeted feedback, and ensuring alignment with MLA Priority Standards and differentiated instruction.
- Co‑lead the PLC process using the DuFour model; support facilitation of Data Team meetings and use assessment data to set short and long‑term instructional goals aligned to student achievement targets.
- Support the efforts of counselor(s) and other school specialists to develop programs enhancing educational growth and addressing behavioral issues.
- Participate in Individual Education Plan meetings and other meetings involving assignment of resources for students with disabilities as directed by the MLA Elementary School Principal.
- Support the formation and facilitation of select committees.
- Oversee daily school operations in coordination with the Principal, including supervision of campus before, during, and after school; management of substitute coverage; and coordination of transportation, food service, and custodial services as needed.
