Director Of Facilities

Working independently and collaboratively, the Director of Facilities is responsible for planning, directing, and leading the district's facilities team in alignment with the district's mission, vision, and values. Provides District and community leadership in ensuring that District facilities and plans meet the needs of staff, students, and the expectations of stakeholders. Programs, plans, and develops the operations of the district's physical plan to meet present and future needs;

investigates, recommends, and manages the Capital Improvement Plan (CIP) of the district.

Any combination of experience and training that would provide the required knowledge and abilities is appropriate. A representative way to obtain the required knowledge and abilities would be:

  • Bachelor's Degree or experience and equivalent training.
  • Three to five years of successful administrative or supervisory experience including organizing and directing a diverse crew of skilled and semi-skilled employees.
  • Experience in building construction, job estimating, engineering, landscaping requirements, interpretation of plans, or equivalent experience in maintenance and grounds care.
  • Familiarity of practices of building trades.
  • Oregon Fingerprinting and Criminal Background Check clearance
  • Valid Class C Driver's License and evidence of insurability

  • Knowledge of school district, state, federal, county, and local agency (DEQ, EPA, OSHA, etc.) regulations pertaining to building maintenance and custodial services.
  • Technical knowledge of HVAC, electrical, roof, security, and fire/life/safety systems.
  • Thorough knowledge of safety and accident prevention measures.
  • Ability to review plans and make recommendations of a structural, mechanical, maintenance, and operational nature.
  • Ability to develop and implement budgets and work schedules.
  • Ability to prepare written specifications for bidding.
  • Intermediate to advanced technological skills, Google Suite applications, facility and work order scheduling software experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain high profile, influential, and collaborative working relationships across teams, functions and layers with District staff, public officials, vendors, and the general public including situations that may require conflict resolution.
  • Self-starter with proven analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to exercise confidentiality, tact, diplomacy, and independent judgment in performance of duties.
  • Excellent leadership skills as demonstrated by attendance, work ethic, and job performance.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and professionally, both orally and in writing, in meetings, e-mail, one-on-one, presentations, and ability to work collaboratively in teams.
  • Knowledge of principles and practices of work coordination and simplification and ability to develop and implement work schedules.
  • Strong conflict resolution skills and demonstrated ability and competency to work with a diverse population of clients and coworkers of all ages.
  • Ability to think strategically, proven analytical and problem solving skills, and ability to develop both short term and long term plans to meet an objective.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills in leading, motivating, coaching, and developing staff with ability to exercise confidentiality, tact, diplomacy, and independent judgment in performance of duties.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritizing tasks to meet deadlines while maintaining a high degree of accuracy, organization, and attention to detail.
  • Ability to produce accurate work in a sometimes stressful environment with frequent deadlines. Ability to remain focused and calm in chaotic situations. Ability to develop and maintain procedural systems and controls on computerized and manual systems.

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization. Understanding of basic bookkeeping principles necessary to maintain records and filing systems including alphabetical, numerical, and chronological is strongly preferred. If multi-lingual or bi-lingual, must be willing and ready to utilize skills when working with staff, students, community members and/or guardians.

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, proportions, and percentages. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra.
