The Parks and Nature Department is looking for a Parks Maintenance Technician to maintain Metro’s park, marine facility, and cemetery infrastructure, systems and equipment. This includes performing and coordinating a wide variety of multi‑skilled tasks, preventative maintenance, in depth inspection and reporting, reactionary repairs, contractor oversight, construction, and emergency utility systems call‑out response across the portfolio. This position is key in maintaining safe and welcoming park destinations for the community to connect to.
Responsibilities- Consult with managers as necessary to determine the overall asset and system requirements; prepare complex designs, technical specifications, and project plans as required.
- Consult with managers, supervisors, and other parks employees regarding projects, safety and other work that impacts their sites and the public.
- Perform and coordinate technical system evaluations involved with park assets, associated systems, fleet and equipment or other specialties.
- Arrange for contractors, consultants, or other services as needed and function as project manager when authorized.
- Perform and coordinate inspection, maintenance, and repairs on park infrastructure and equipment as required.
- Oversee lower‑level maintenance staff to ensure work is completed correctly and in a timely manner; ensure timely and accurate records of maintenance work.
- Troubleshoot, repair, and perform unscheduled maintenance, modification or replacement of mechanical parts, pipes, sensors, and equipment.
- Perform basic electrical testing; train and perform other testing procedures.
- Install or oversee contractor installation of new equipment and systems as necessary.
- Order replacement parts and maintain parts inventory.
- Observe and perform all work in accordance with industry standards and safety procedures.
- Serve as subject matter expert on park infrastructure, systems, and equipment.
- Actively participate in review and feedback for parks capital projects.
- Complete maintenance and repair records.
- Coordinate and perform emergency services diagnostics, troubleshooting and repair functions and be responsible for controls, backup systems, and alarms.
- Compile data for reports.
- Work directly with on‑call service providers to troubleshoot, repair and maintain park system issues.
- Ensure park systems and infrastructure are compliant under all federal, state and local requirements.
- Manage requests for quotes and schedules of work to be completed.
- Write scopes of work, oversee contracted park projects, ensure the work is complete and meets the requirements of the contract.
- Assist with scope creation for on‑call contract solicitations.
- Utilize Asset Essentials (CMMS) for scheduling, documenting and completing work orders, tracking assets and updating records as needed.
- Assist Park Arborist with tree removals and tree cleanup (This includes tending to emergency situations and storm damage).
- Perform right‑of‑way weed and vegetation management across the park portfolio.
- Use computers proficiently (email, Microsoft office, CMMS database, other programs).
- Provide heavy equipment operation and safety training for park staff. Also maintain proper certifications associated with training.
- Load and secure equipment on trailers for hauling to job sites across the region using safety procedures.
- Knowledge of standard practices, methods, tools and materials of mechanical, plumbing, carpentry, painting, basic electrical, welding, concrete and other trades.
- Knowledge of occupational hazards involved and the safety precautions necessary in the area of specific assignments.
- Knowledge of applicable federal, State, and local policies, procedures, laws and regulations for respective field.
- Knowledge of Metro’s project management, procurement and contracting basics.
