Job Summary: The job of "Mechanic" is performed to determine needed repairs and/or replacements on a vehicle, ensuring the availability of vehicles in safe operating condition, and providing written documentation of repairs to meet district, state and federal requirements.
Essential Job Functions- Diagnoses potential vehicle malfunctions to determine needed vehicle repairs and/or replacements.
- Executes preventive vehicle maintenance programs to maintain vehicles in a safe operating condition.
- Maintains tools, equipment and/or shop area to ensure the availability and functioning of required tools and equipment within a safe work area.
- Prepares documentation (e.g., repairs, maintenance records, etc.) to provide written support and/or information to comply with regulating guidelines.
- Repairs/replaces vehicle systems/components to ensure the availability of vehicles in safe operating condition.
- Replaces defective vehicle parts/systems to ensure the availability of vehicles in safe operating condition.
- Maintains prompt and regular attendance.
- Assists other personnel as may be required to support them in completing their work activities.
- Occasionally operates a school bus to transport students on home‑to‑school routes.
- Performs minor body work (e.g., front ends, fenders, etc.) to maintain the appearance and safe operation of the vehicles.
Education and Training
Required:
High School Diploma or GED.
Experience
Required:
Prior related experience involving gas, diesel and alternative engines. At least two years preferred.
- Maintain gas, diesel and alternative engines.
- Operate hand and power tools.
- Operate standard office equipment including basic computer applications, such as email and Outlook calendar; use English in both written and verbal form, with correct spelling, grammar and punctuation.
- Repairs, safe working methods and procedure.
- Stand for prolonged periods.
- Inspect and repair buses.
Significant Physical Abilities: Lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, stooping, crouching, reaching, handling; hearing conversations and other sounds (e.g., air leaks); near/far visual acuity and depth perception with or without accommodation.
Special Requirements- Valid Oregon Commercial Driver's License with air brake and passenger endorsements or ability to acquire one within 90 days of employment; evidence of insurability.
- Oregon School Bus Driver’s Certificate or ability to acquire one within 90 days of employment.
- Oregon Fingerprint and criminal background check clearance.
Other: Provides own basic mechanic’s hand tools.
Work Calendar: 260 work days – 12 months, prorated on start date.

Salary: $27.91 to $44.68 Per Hour
