Course Responsibilities
- Acquire required text and materials for instruction at facilitator’s own expense.
- Participate in individual and group training related to course content, objectives, learning management platform, and online teaching prior to the beginning of the course.
- Attend any additional training required by Emerson and meet at least three times per term with the Convenor and other facilitators to ensure course section parity.
- Host weekly live Zoom sessions for a course section of approximately 10–17 students.
- Host weekly office hours and schedule additional student meetings as needed.
- Respond to students’ questions in a timely manner.
- Provide grades and feedback on student performance in a thoughtful and timely way.
- Provide asynchronous and synchronous feedback to the Convenor for course iterations.
- Maintain live session plans, including videos and activities, embedded in Canvas.
- One live session per week at a set day and time.
- One office hour per week.
- Private student meetings as needed.
- Grade 5 tests, 2 large assignments, and asynchronous assignments every week.
- Master’s degree with certification in speech‑language pathology and a valid state license.
- Minimum 4–6 years of experience as a practicing Speech‑Language Pathologist.
- Experience working in a speech and hearing clinical setting and/or ASHA professional certification.
- Fluency with webinar technology (Zoom, Web Ex, Go To Meeting , and Skype).
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, GSuite, and presentation software.
- Experience with online educational programs.
- Strong clinical experience with voice and upper airway, preferably practicing alongside otolaryngology and/or completion of a voice CF.
- Full proficiency in perceptual rating of voices and reviewing laryngoscopy/stroboscopy exams, with preference for those who perform them regularly.
- Canvas, PRAAT, CAPE‑Vr/CAPE‑V, Google Slides, Zoom features, Lucid Spark, and other relevant presentation tools.
- Strong relationship‑building skills to engage diverse stakeholders, including faculty, staff, and students.
- Ability to handle and maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment.
- Passion for helping students.
- Effective presentation skills to small and large groups.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills with concise and articulate delivery.
- Comfortable working remotely with reliable internet and computer equipment.
- Primarily sedentary; movement throughout the area required from time to time.
- Requires long periods of mental concentration.
- Repetitive movements; occasional lifting up to 20 pounds, reaching, stooping.
- Ability to read a computer screen, detect color coding and read fine print.
- This is a fully remote role requiring a designated quiet, distraction‑free workspace.
- Candidates may reside in any of the 50 states except Montana, Colorado, Hawaii, Alaska, and Puerto Rico.
