Overview
The Assistant Area Coordinator works directly with the professional Residence Life Staff, Resident Assistants, and on‑campus students and will provide support to the Area Coordinator in a particular residential area on campus. This is a non‑exempt position with an hourly rate of $23.00. This position includes paid sick leave where required by law. Eligibility, accrual, and usage will follow applicable state and local regulations.
Responsibilities- Manage the day‑to‑day operations of a specific residence hall or residence halls of students living in college housing.
- Directly supervise and evaluate 5‑7 Resident Assistants (RA).
- Assist with the overall development, planning, and implementation of programming pertaining to Residence Life’s residential curriculum.
- Assist Area Coordinator with managing area budget.
- Participate in the administrator on‑call rotation for approximately three weeks per semester and actively respond to a wide range of crises situations.
- Assist in the planning, development, and implementation of RA trainings, in‑services, and RA selection via departmental committee structure.
- Serve as a student conduct hearing officer and hear cases as assigned by Community Standards.
- Assist with RA recognition efforts.
- Provide office support by working 5 hours per week at the front desk of the Student Life Suite assisting with housing‑related projects.
- Liaise and collaborate with campus partners including Facilities, Wellness, and Student Conduct.
- Supports Housing Operations with move‑in/move‑out.
- Attend weekly professional staff meetings (date and time TBD) and weekly student staff meetings from 4:30‑6:30 pm on Monday nights.
- Assume additional responsibilities as required.
- Resident Assistants
- Bachelor’s Degree required and must be a matriculated graduate student.
- Enrollment in a CSP, Counseling, or Higher Education Administration program preferred. Non‑matriculated students engaged in appropriate coursework may be considered.
- Must demonstrate flexibility and adaptability.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and autonomously.
- Must possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Must maintain a positive attitude and represent the College and Department appropriately.
- Ability to envision and propose new methods to perform tasks that support.
- Et&a take thoughtful risks; and accept new and ongoing initiatives, objectives, and solutions to gain sought‑after results.
- Ability to anticipate and embrace change; demonstrate willingness to achieve, acquire, and utilize new skills and challenging tasks; and is flexible in changing conditions.
- Must have strong technology skills including proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint).
- Willing to work evening and weekends as required; live‑on position; must serve on‑call rotation.
- This is a live‑on, 10‑month (Monday, July 20, 2026 – Friday, May 21, 2027 (38 working weeks)), part time (14‑20 hours per week) position within Babson College’s Office of Residence Life. Graduate student follows the break dates of their academic program (Thanksgiving break, winter break and spring break).
- This position includes an on‑campus apartment (either individual or shared apartment) within a residence hall and a taxable meal plan. This position is for one academic year.
- Prior residence life experience, a positive attitude and awareness of social justice principles are preferred.
