Fall Varsity Assistant Cheer Coach - High School

Atlantis Charter School, Grades 7-12 – Fall River, Massachusetts

Starting Date: Immediately

Job Description

The Assistant Cheer Coach supports the head coach in training athletes, managing team logistics, and fostering a positive team environment. Responsibilities include teaching skills, leading practices, running sideline cheer during games, and assisting with administrative tasks such as equipment management and player/parent communication. Must be able to attend weekend Cheer Competitions.

Additional duties also encompass the responsibilities of an After School Athletics Coach, including coaching, enforcing safety protocols, coordinating activities, supervising students, and ensuring all students meet program standards.

Qualifications
  • Previous experience coaching in a similar sport strongly preferred.
  • Experience teaching and coaching techniques appropriate to the assigned sport.
  • Ability to acquire First Aid, CPR, AED, Concussion training certifications, and training as required by the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association (MIAA).
  • Possession of a valid Driver’s License for transporting students.
  • Availability to attend activities, practices, games, and meetings outside of school hours as necessary.
  • Dependability and reliability.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and spoken.
  • Ability to relate well to others.
  • Citizenship, residency or work visa required.
Reports To

Athletic Director and Principal

Supervision

Coach Assistants, if any assigned.

Roles and Responsibilities
  • Maintain current First-Aid, CPR, and Concussion training as required.
  • Keep up to date with necessary training for assigned sport.
  • Attend regularly scheduled coach meetings organized by the Athletic Director.
  • Create a supportive environment that encourages student participation.
  • Adhere to practice schedules, student practice rules, and medical compliance.
  • Uphold and enforce safety rules and standards.
  • Set appropriate boundaries for students based on school rules.
  • Model positive behavior and fair play.
  • Instruct students in proper use of equipment and set up equipment for practice and games.
  • Notify Athletic Director or Game Day Assistant of equipment misuse or replacement needs.
  • Train students in the basic skills necessary for the assigned sport.
  • Collaborate with staff volunteers as needed.
  • Ensure all documentation is submitted to the Athletic Director by deadlines.
  • Assist in planning and executing awards ceremonies for students at the end of the school year.
  • Maintain a professional appearance, including wearing ACS branded attire on game days.
  • Attend all necessary meetings related to the Athletics Program.
  • Keep Athletic Director and Game Day Assistant updated on games, practices, and related matters.
  • Maintain records of student athlete attendance, varsity game statistics, and equipment/uniform assignments.

Terms of Employment

Stipend of $2,000, paid upon completion of the season.

Work Environment

Ability to run, walk, sit, and stand for long periods. May work outside during inclement weather for practices and games. Travel to and from games, practices, and meetings is required.
