Position Description

Merrimack College is a selective, private college in a beautiful, residential setting—just minutes from Boston, Massachusetts. The Department of Math and Physics invites applications for adjunct faculty to teach General Physics 1 this upcoming Fall semester 2026.

General Physics 1 (PHY
2201) – Monday/Wednesday/Friday 9:45 AM – 11:00 AM.

This course runs August 31st to December 18th, 2026. Duties include delivering lectures in a classroom setting, administering exams, and grading students’ assignments.

Qualifications
  • Hold at least a MS in Physics, Mathematics or a related field.
  • College‑level teaching experience and experience utilizing learning‑management systems (e.g., Canvas) and technology in the classroom is highly desirable.

Compensation

Minimum: $5,000 per 4‑credit course.

Minimum: $3,750 per lab section.

Actual pay will be determined based on candidate qualifications, prior experience, scope of responsibilities, internal equity, and market considerations.

Course Overview

PHY
2201 – General Physics 1:
First semester of a one‑year introduction to physics, without calculus. Topics normally include vectors, kinematics, Newton’s laws of motion, work and energy, momentum, torque, statics, and circular and rotational motion.
