Position: Full Time Guidance Counselor

The primary function of the Guidance Counselor is to provide a comprehensive competency-based counseling program focused on the learning, personal/social and career/vocational needs of all students. Under the direction of the Principal or their designee, the Guidance Counselor shall adhere to national, state, and local statutes, policies, and regulations regarding counseling and assist students in the development of social emotional skills and developmental assets.

The Guidance Counselor is responsible for the supervision of all students within their assignment, is committed to the Atlantis Charter School Board of Trustees policies regarding equity, human rights and cross cultural understanding and reports directly to the Principal or their designee.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree required, in related area preferred
  • Guidance Counseling experience strongly preferred.
  • Experience using technology in the classroom preferred.
  • Master’s degree in Counseling/Social Work or related area preferred
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office software
  • Ability to relate well to others and ability to motivate students.
  • Ability to work effectively with others.

Roles And Responsibilities
  • Demonstrates sound knowledge and understanding of professional content and delivery by consistently engaging students in behavioral, and social/emotional learning experiences through the use of educational and/or clinical practices that enable students to acquire knowledge and skills.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of students’ developmental levels and the different ways students learn or behave by providing differentiated learning experiences, support, and/or assistance that enable all students to progress toward meeting intended outcomes.
  • Develops or contributes to the timely development of well-structured plans with measurable outcomes that respond to all relevant individual student needs, and include supports that enable students to meet the goals or objectives of the plan.
  • Develops well-structured lessons (which may include individual and group activities or sessions) with challenging, measurable objectives and appropriate student engagement strategies, pacing, sequence, activities, materials, resources, technologies, and grouping.
  • Designs and administers assessments and/or collects data to measure student learning, growth, and/or development through a variety of methods, including informal and formal assessments and common interim assessments where applicable.
  • Organizes and analyzes results from a variety of assessments to determine progress toward intended outcomes and uses these findings to adjust practice and identify and/or implement appropriate differentiated interventions, supports, and programs for students.
  • Individually and with colleagues, draws appropriate conclusions about programs, plans, and practices from a thorough analysis of a wide range of data to improve student learning, growth, and development.
  • Regularly shares with appropriate colleagues conclusions about student progress and seeks feedback from them about practices that will support improved student learning and/or development.
  • Based on assessment results and/or other data, provides descriptive feedback and engages students and families in constructive conversation that focuses on student growth and improvement.
  • Using school data, designs a measurable, strategic plan for the systemic delivery of a comprehensive school counseling program, including targeted interventions designed to address inequities and close achievement gaps.
  • Develops and delivers a standards-based counseling curriculum that supports all students in developing academic competencies, workplace readiness, and the social skills necessary for success in higher education, the workplace, and other post-secondary options.
