POSITION TITLE: Senior Special Programs Coordinator - Peer Support Groups (part-time, temporary)
DEPARTMENT: Student Engagement & Belonging/Student Services and Enrollment Management

Fall River, Hybrid, or Remote
REPORTS TO: Director, Student Engagement & Belonging
POSITION STATUS: This is a part time, state funded, MCCC unit position without benefits.
SALARY: $36.55 per hour

STATEMENT OF DUTIES:

The Peer Support Groups Coordinator is responsible for developing a sustainable framework for student-led peer support groups at Bristol Community College. The Coordinator will work directly with students to develop and facilitate peer support groups that foster connection, belonging, mutual support, and student success. The position will recruit, train, and mentor student peer facilitators and develop standardized resources, protocols, training materials, and operational practices to support the ongoing success of the groups.

The Coordinator will focus on creating a sustainable peer support model that can be transitioned to ongoing oversight by College staff and student leaders. This position will collaborate with relevant College departments and campus resources to ensure peer support groups are appropriately connected to existing student services and referral networks.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS,

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop, implement, and launch a structured peer support group program designed to promote student connection, belonging, mutual support, and persistence.
  • Establish a clear framework for the development, operation, facilitation, and evaluation of peer support groups, including group purpose, facilitator roles, participation expectations, referral procedures, and appropriate boundaries.
  • Recruit, select, train, and mentor student peer support facilitators to lead and sustain peer support groups.
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive training program for student peer support facilitators, including active listening, communication, group facilitation, confidentiality and its limitations, boundaries, inclusive practices, crisis recognition, referral protocols, and self-care.
  • Provide ongoing coaching, consultation, and support to student peer facilitators to strengthen their skills and promote effective group facilitation.
  • Create standardized facilitator guides, training materials, group protocols, templates, and other resources necessary to support consistent and sustainable implementation of peer support groups.
  • Work collaboratively with students to identify areas of need and develop peer support groups that respond to the experiences and interests of the College's diverse student population.
  • Establish processes for connecting students participating in peer support groups with appropriate College and community resources, including academic, basic needs, counseling, advising, disability, and other support services.
  • Develop and maintain clear protocols for responding to student concerns that arise within peer support groups, including appropriate referral and escalation procedures.
  • Collaborate with relevant College departments, student support services, cultural and identity-based centers, and other campus partners to ensure alignment and coordination of peer support efforts.
  • Develop strategies to recruit and retain participants in peer support groups through outreach, communication, and student engagement efforts.
  • Establish methods for assessing the effectiveness and impact of peer support groups, including participant feedback, facilitator feedback, participation data, and other appropriate measures.
  • Monitor and evaluate the implementation of peer support groups and make recommendations for program improvements and future development.
  • Create a comprehensive sustainability and transition framework that enables peer support groups to continue operating effectively after the conclusion of the temporary position.
