Job Description

This assignment is covering a temporary leave of absence. The length will be from November 2026 until June 2027. The daily rate is $350 per day.

Must hold a valid clinical license issued by the state Allied Mental Health or Social Work boards (e.g.,
LCSW, LICSW, LMHC, LMFT, or LRC
).

The Student Adjustment Counselor is responsible for the supervision of all students within their assignment, is committed to the Atlantis Charter School Board of Trustees policies regarding equity, human rights and cross cultural understanding and reports directly to the Principal or their designee. Under the direction of the Principal or their designee, the Student Adjustment Counselor shall adhere to national, state, and local statutes, policies, and regulations regarding counseling and assist students in the development of social emotional skills and developmental assets.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

While actual roles and responsibilities will vary depending on individual circumstances, the Student Adjustment Counselor will generally be required to perform some or all of the following tasks. Note that this list is not all-inclusive and that the administrator may also assign other tasks he/she deems appropriate.

  • Maintains the highest and most appropriate learning expectations of students at all times.
  • Counsels students, in a group or individual setting, whose behavior, school progress, or mental or physical handicap or condition indicates the need for assistance.
  • Encourages parents and students to participate in the learning process through frequent and meaningful communication about classroom activities and student progress.
  • Assists teachers and staff in behavioral interventions and strategies to assist learning.
  • Develops and implements a positive system of student recognition. System encourages students to engage in positive behaviors and/or decrease negative behaviors
  • Regularly consults with parents, teachers, and other school personnel to determine causes of problems and develops solutions such as recommending a change of class or school, special tutoring, or other treatment to assist in helping students succeed.
  • Provides bullying and character education to students to improve student functioning and maintain a safe and positive school environment and culture.
  • Recommends change of class or school, special tutoring, or other treatment to assist in helping students succeed.
  • Ensures that all students are offered equitable opportunities to participate in school activities.
  • Connects faculty and parents to appropriate resources to address student's needs. Follows up with parents or faculty as needed and answers questions.
  • Consistently provides parents with clear, user-friendly expectations for student behavior. Suggests strategies for supporting positive behavior at school and home.
  • Regularly uses two-way communication with families about student growth and responds promptly and carefully to communications from families. Always communicates respectfully with families and demonstrates understanding of and sensitivity to different families' home language, culture and values.
  • Uses a variety of strategies to support every family to participate actively and appropriately in the school community.
  • Demonstrates sensitivity to cultural differences and encourage appreciation of diversity.
