Are you inspired by invention? Is problem solving through teamwork in your DNA? Do you like the idea of seeing how your work impacts the bigger picture? Answer yes to any of these and you’ll fit right in here at Amazon Robotics. We are a smart, collaborative team of doers that work passionately to apply advances in robotics and software to solve real-world challenges that will transform our customers’ experiences in ways we can’t even image yet.
We invent new improvements every day. We are Amazon Robotics and we will give you the tools and support you need to invent with us in ways that are rewarding, fulfilling and fun.
As an Amazon Robotics mechanical engineer, you will develop innovative system architectures and hardware designs for our robotic systems. The ideal candidate has experience:
- Designing sheet metal components, weldments, and mechanical assemblies for high-volume manufacturing, incorporating appropriate features for sheet metal and other high-volume production methods while accounting for variation and tolerances to ensure products remain functional over extended runs.
- Using CAD to develop concepts, detailed assemblies, and design evaluations, applying engineering fundamentals and analytical skills to validate that hardware is functional, long-lasting, and robust, with or without prototypes or functional testing.
- Working with significant autonomy to deliver mechanical design solutions for projects with ambiguous or unrefined requirements, breaking down problems into logical categories, developing requirements, and providing solutions within robotic system constraints.
- A general understanding of automation controls and sensing technologies, with experience selecting and incorporating commercially available components into mechanical designs to balance performance, cost, and development timelines.
- Collaborating with an interdisciplinary team to execute product designs from concept to production including specification, design, prototyping, validation and testing.
- Working with the Operations, Manufacturing, Supply Chain and Quality organizations as well as vendors to ensure a smooth product launch.
- Writing functional specifications, design verification plans, and functional test procedures.
- Demonstrating thorough engineering analysis and full ownership of designs from concept through production support.
- Independently designing and adapting holistic hardware solutions for ambiguous problems with fluid requirements.
- Applying sound engineering evaluation and analysis to deliver validated mechanical hardware solutions, including the selection of commercially available components and integration with automation controls and sensors when required.
As a Mechanical Engineer on this team, you will spend your days solving complex design challenges for automated systems that operate at global scale. You will see your work move from concept to deployment, knowing the hardware you designed is running in fulfillment centers and impacting customers daily.
