Job Description
This is a senior-level hire (Principal Scientist to Director) for an experienced microfluidics and consumables engineering leader who can contribute both strategically and hands-on across system architecture, design verification, manufacturability, and scale-up. This individual will play a critical role in advancing fluidic subsystems from concept through robust, scalable product implementation.
Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities- Lead design and optimization of microfluidic architectures and consumable/cartridge systems for complex assay workflows
- Translate assay and system requirements into robust fluidic designs addressing flow control, mixing, reagent handling, and failure mode mitigation
- Drive modeling, experimentation, and design verification activities, including fluidic performance characterization and reliability studies
- Lead development of flowcell and consumable integration strategies, including design-for-manufacture and scale-up considerations
- Partner cross-functionally with assay development, engineering, manufacturing, and product teams to optimize real-world cartridge performance
- Support supplier interactions, manufacturing transfer, and technical documentation within regulated development environments
- Contribute to technical strategy and help shape broader consumables and microfluidics platform direction
Qualifications
- Advanced degree in Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or related field
- Significant industry experience appropriate for Principal Scientist through Director leveling
- Deep expertise in microfluidic system design, fluid handling, and consumables engineering
- Strong background in experimental troubleshooting, verification testing, and fluidics modeling (CFD/COMSOL or similar preferred)
- Experience with manufacturable consumables, process scale-up, and DFM/DFA principles
- Familiarity with regulated product development (IVD, med device, or related) strongly preferred
