DEFINITIONThis position is responsible for the management and maintenance of the City’s municipal fleet and related equipment and infrastructure and may assist in the provision of personnel or maintenance work across other divisions and functional areas of the Department of Public Works (DPW).
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSThe essential functions or duties listed below are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work that may be performed. - Plans, directs, and organizes the work of the Fleet Division within the DPW, including the scheduling, assigning, and supervision of the repairing, servicing, and maintenance of municipal police vehicles, large public works equipment, inspectional service vehicles, pupil transit vans, and senior assistance vehicles.
- Inspects work in progress and at completion to ensure standards of productivity and quality; maintains related repair and maintenance records and tracking in electronic vehicle management software; conducts safety inspections and registration of municipal vehicles.
- Manages and administers fleet-related software services; acts as the primary administrator for the City’s fleet/fuel management and GPS software; maintains and manages the fuel depot for all municipal vehicles.
- Prepares various reports and records, including costs of labor and parts, vehicle accident reports, activity reports, damage estimates, and fuel consumption records utilizing electronic tracking systems; gathers relevant data from contractors and vendors as required; ensures environmental and safety compliance for fuel tanks and tracks fuel distribution and use for municipal vehicles.
- Manages all insurance, registration, and titles for municipal fleet; contacts insurance companies involving municipal vehicle accidents and collisions.
- Recommends and schedules appropriate training, observes and appraises performance, and ensures the quality and quantity of work performed by division personnel.
- Recommends changes in status and compensation of personnel; resolves grievances within the division; oversees preparation of payroll and related personnel matters.
