Overview

SUMMARY:

Working under the day-to-day supervision of the pharmacists and Pharmacy Leadership, the technician is responsible for the proper handling of medications. This includes receiving, distribution, management of expiration dates, management of inventory in Pyxis, storage, repackaging, compounding, filling orders, delivering, and stocking. The job requires excellent communication skills and a desire to work in a fast-paced environment. Responsibilities
  • Works under the supervision of Pharmacy Leadership
  • Performs hazardous compounding
  • Performs batch sterility tests
  • Monitors at least one Key Performance Indicator or produces at least one Key Process Improvement
  • Assists in revising training materials
  • Demonstrates intermediate skill performance in purchasing, decentralized pharmacy services, medication histories, ADC optimization, and ordering/receiving
  • Assists with receiving orders from wholesalers; scans in deliveries; inventories items; ensures each medication is scannable
  • Maintains stock levels by communicating needs for items running low
  • Repackages medications from bulk to unit-dose when necessary
  • Performs dosing calculations, prepares clean room and sterile/non-sterile compounds, follows clean room policies, and uses aseptic technique
  • Maintains inventory: checks expiration dates, assists with monthly floor inspections, ensures proper labeling, dispositions of medications and hazardous substances, and returns expired meds eligible for credit
  • Assists in semi-annual inventory activities; fills medication orders; retrieves medications from ADC fill lists; prepares and checks trays and kits
  • Delivers medications to appropriate locations; updates ADC with current dates; handles med outs and returns as needed
  • Maintains and operates the Automated Dispensing Cabinet (ADC) and troubleshoots minor equipment issues
  • Communicates with patients, nurses, and staff; provides exceptional customer service; triages calls as needed
  • Maintains professionalism, dresses appropriately, keeps work area neat, and complies with HIPAA
  • Supports training of new staff; manages time effectively; maintains logs (refrigerators, hood cleaning, eye wash, etc.)
  • Handles controlled substances with proper documentation and immediate reporting of concerns or discrepancies
  • Completes work assignments within an acceptable time frame; develops efficient working relationships; collaborates to achieve positive outcomes
  • Contributes to quality and continuous improvement efforts
Minimum Qualifications
  • Written and oral communication skills

  • Ability to work in a team environment; problem solving
  • Ability to provide high level of customer service; cooperativeness; courteous and respectful interactions

Education

Is responsible for maintaining licensure CPhT and State registration as required
